The explicit message of the commercial was that, as governor of Massachusetts, Dukakis had been soft on crime by offering furloughs to convicted murderers; Horton ran away while on furlough and then committed new felonies, including rape. The implicit message was the menace posed by hulking, scowling black men—like the Willie Horton who was shown in the commercial...


How about the menace posed by murderers and rapists?


Anyway, Hart was the last Democrat who will ever be in trouble for having a girl on his lap.


Lord knows I've had enough girls on my lap - sometimes my wife and her sister!

It's no job for a man who has ever had any fun.


Alas, Democrats can't be trusted on a boat. Not with a ship's wheel, not with a screwdriver, not with standing or running rigging, not with a chart or a radio or an EPIRB, and certainly not with a woman. Always better to leave them on the dock. They can, after all, be trusted to put the dock carts away and go home to complain online about reproductive rights and the patriarchal hegemony.
