NJ: Lance(R) has narrow lead among voters age 50+, poll says (Tossup Democrats Need)

Incumbent Republican leads Malinowski by 3 points in AARP poll

Rep. Leonard Lance (R-Clinton) has a 38%-35% lead over Democrat Tom Malinowski among voters over 50 years of age in his close first election since winning the seat in 2008, according to a poll conducted by the American Association for Retired Persons (AARP).

Green party candidate Diane Moxley had the support of 1% of the respondents. Freedom, Responsibility, Action candidate Gregg Mele was backed by 2% of the same.

In New Jersey, voters tend to skew Republican as they get older. The opposite is true of young voters, who tend to cast ballots for Democrats.

This is good news for Malinowski, a former Assistant U.S. Secretary of State who is seeking to become the first Democrat to capture this House seat since 1954.

At 43%-46%, President Donald Trump had a slightly upside-down approval rating in the district. In 2016, Hillary Clinton won the district 49%-47.5%.

More than half of the voters polled disapproved of how Republicans were doing in Congress – 55% said they disapproved while only 27% approved.

Though those numbers aren’t great, they still beat out elderly voters’ opinions on Democrats. The approval rating of Malinowski’s party was deep underwater, 22%-58%.

The poll was conducted by Alan Newman Research. It has a sample size of 606, 31% of whom were contacted on their cell phones while 68% were reached on landlines. Respondents were screened to make sure they were 50 or older and registered to vote. The poll has a margin of error of +/- 4 percentage points.

I live in this county / district. I think Lance is in great shape, not because of his efforts/results, rather support for Trump .....

My favorite Churchill quote said (in essence) “If you are under 30 and not a liberal, then you have no heart. If you are over 30 and not a conservative, then you have no brain.”

Lance voted against tax cuts, repealing Obamacare, and supports Mueller’s witch hunt.

IF he is barely up 50+, he’s probably down slightly overall

It is odd to see the lefties at AARP reporting a republican tilt. It must be bigger than they are saying.

I don’t think selecting a narrow demographic like this does much good to the average reader.

I live in this district and I don’t see any enthusiasm for Lance. Other than having an R after his name on the ballot he hasn’t given any reason for anyone to vote for him. He may win but he’s a squish.

If he only has a narrow lead among over 50’s he is probably very much a dead duck.

It is a binary poltical system

Every R give control of the Congress to people who will being Trump agenda to the floor for votes. It might fail but it will get voted on

Every D vote makes sure NOTHING Trump wants gets brought up for a vote.

The time to scream you usual “Hate the GOP always” hysteric bile is the PRIMARY once we get to the General EVERY R is 100 % better then ANY D.

If you screaming morons in “Conservative Inc” are too stupid to understand how poltical works in the US of A, just sit down and shut up until the General Election is over in 2 weeks.

What missing in all this poltical analysis in the Clown Media is what happens if the GOP holds the House and gains in the Senate?

Most of the die hard Never Trumpers, Ryan, Flake, Corker, Mcain etc are gone due to retirement or death. The next Congress, if the GOP Holds, is going to be a much more Trump friendly place

This is my district and this guy Malinoski is real slimy. He moved here a year ago to run. Just oozes with Dem slime from his slick backed hair to his phony family man image. I would be disappointed if Lance (and I am not a huge fan of the RINO) loses to this guy.

I think the SALT deduction is going to hurt in NJ. It is ironic, is it not. I liken it to this, you walk to school each day and a thug beats you up for your lunch money. Along comes a Good Samaritan who isn’t always there but protects you enough so that you get to keep some of your lunch money. Still, the bully is there.

Now, here is the million dollar, are you a lefty or a right thinking person question:

The Good Samaritan moves away and now the bully is back to taking all of your money. Who do you blame?

I know who the lefty blames.

Malinowski owns a home in Washington, D.C., and was registered to vote there as of March 2018. He began renting a home in Rocky Hill, New Jersey, in September 2017.

Recruited by the DNC and then inserted into NJ.

At this point it’s irrelevant. We need every R we can get to keep the House. We need to do a much better job of strategizing in the primaries. It’s a numbers game at this point.

The next Congress, if the GOP Holds, is going to be a much more Trump friendly place

Even if it doesn't hold, going to be more conservative.

IF we lose the house, I'm content with cheering on the Senate to work overtime placing judges.

Trump will play hardball with the (assumed RAT) House, call them a 'do nothing congress', and hopefully call for a special session just before 2020 election to get wall funding. Truman was last President to call for a special session of congress (1948) when he was polling at 38% and managed to get re-elected - Trump will figure it out.

With so many House Democrats running on lukewarm planks......even if the Dems took the House they are basically neutered in terms of policy advancement and even impeachment if that’s what Nancy would try to do.
