Here come the 2020 Democrats! 30 could compete for White House
Washington Examiner ^ | October 18, 2018 | by W. James Antle III

Get ready for the undercard debates. Democrats are completely out of power in Washington D.C. - for now, at least - but that hasn’t stopped a record number of them from eyeing the White House.

Up to 30 Democrats are considering a 2020 presidential campaign, a figure underlining the true level of ambition within the party amid a burning desire to defeat President Trump and one of the widest-open fields in recent memory.

Sixteen Democrats were tested in a CNN poll this month, ranging from old-timers like former Vice President Joe Biden and 2004 Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry to relative newcomers like California Sen. Kamala Harris and her New Jersey counterpart Sen. Cory Booker. Sen. Elizabeth Warren's DNA test was a sure sign she's running. Millennial heart-throb Bernie Sanders looks like he'll take the plunge.

Right now, Biden and Sanders are the only candidates polling in the double digits. Sanders, an independent socialist who caucuses with Democrats in the Senate, was Clinton’s main foil in the 2016 primaries.

These early polls could prove meaningless, as 2014 or 2015 surveys that showed Scott Walker and Rand Paul to be much more likely to win the Republican nomination than Trump. Or they could show an insurmountable advantage in name identification, much like the 1995 and 1999 leads enjoyed by Bob Dole and George W. Bush, respectively.

This sizeable crop of potential Democratic candidates comes as the party has reduced the role of its superdelegates - leaders who get a vote at the presidential nominating convention by virtue of the offices they hold rather than the primary or caucus results - in 2020.

If the Democratic presidential field really stretches all the way from Biden to little-known congressmen like Delaney, an asterisk candidate, things could get interesting.

My Prediction? It'll be someone that we've never heard of.

Biden and Kerry are a couple of retreads. Sanders is a socialist retread.

Warren is discount Hillary Clinton. What could go wrong with running another retirement-aged Scold from the Northeast who has all of Hillary's likeability (/s) and none of her political clout?

Booker and Harris aren't smart enough.

Wouldn't surprise me to see Jeb! toss his hat in the ring as a Democrat. He'll fail miserably, but he likes to read his name in the paper. Dunno about Flake and Kasich, doubt they're dumb enough to take a swing at it. They're setting themselves up for 2024.

Bloomberg just changed his party affiliation to the surprise of no one. He's likely warming up his campaign bus.

Trump will stomp all of the above. Ergo - I figure that the name will come out of left field.

Maybe we should start making bets on how many hopefuls will compete in the Democrats’ first 2020 presidential debate.

It could be a very high number, since potential network debate sponsors — CNN, NBC, etc. — would be reluctant to set limits, fearing protests from those cut off.

There’d be mobs of angry liberals screaming that numerous Democratic officials, celebrities, etc., were being denied their right to free speech. You can almost see Michael Moore running from camera to camera trying to incite hysteria while plugging his latest movie.

My Prediction? It'll be someone that we've never heard of.

In the very unlikely event that O'Rourke wins, he'll be the candidate.

But, just being old won't necessarily hurt Biden's chances at the nomination. Women, minorities, and unknowns could cancel each other out and leave him on top. He would probably have to pick Harris as his running mate. I don't know how she would go over in the swing states.

Bloomberg just changed his party affiliation to the surprise of no one. He's likely warming up his campaign bus.

Bloomberg is as old as Biden.

My hunch is that Bloomberg would rather run as an Independent, but right now anybody who breaks up the unity of the anti-Trump movement is going to be excoriated, so instead he's going to run as a Democrat.

i guess the Dems figure that if 15 or so was good for the Pubs in 2016, then 30 or so would be twice as good for the Dems in 2020 ... still, with that many kommies trying to each out-kommie the other, the “winner” is going to make Vladimir Lenin look like a piker ...

Remember when Yeb was supposed to get the nomination before Trump stole the show? We had 19 pus running in a field that was to be whittled down to one. At that time, a theory was posited that the extra pubs running were there to take away from the person who was the frontrunner so that Yeb could coast into the nomination. Could the Rats be doing the same thing? Could the Rats ensure that Biden or Warren gets the nomination and all the rest of the field is there to counter Bernie? Need to look at the field more in-depth to figure this out and not brush it off as lunacy since the DNC changed their rules. People once thought 19 people running for Prez in 2016 was lunacy until it became clear it was organized chaos.

That is a fantastic graphic, thanks. Pardon my naivete, but who is the blonde on the far right with the green fingernails.

The more the merrier, for 2 reasons:

1) They will have to move way to the Left (more than they already have) in order to win the vote of the Crazies and, hopefully, win the nomination. That sets up Trump nicely to REALLY crush the nominee as being a complete extremist.

2) 30 candidates will suck ALL of the money out of the Dems political process - so more populist Lefty crazies like Alexandria Occasional Cortex will win the primaries, thereby lessening the chance of Republican losses and increasing the chance of Republican gains in 2020.

The most beautiful part about this is that they ALL believe their own BS, specifically that Trump is going to lose in 2020, so their naked ambition for power will be front and center.

Oh, and when Chief Gray Beaver or Spartacus gets completely schlonged 2 years from now, new oceans will be created from all of the Leftist tears. I simply cannot wait!!!!
