In the first operation of its kind in Europe, the San Raffaele hospital in Milan has used new technology to correct the congenital defect, which affects some 20,000 babies worldwide.

What a blessing this would be!
That the operation is successful is fantastic news........
Horrible birth defect now correctable.....
I was involved years ago in trying to save baby with spina bifida being starved and dehydrated to death in hospital. Got doctor sanctioned. Still have hate mail.
That's disturbing. We have through the years socialized with some friends of my sister in law. They had a child born with spina bifida. He's about 11 now. Boisterous, energetic, upbeat, smart. He has leg braces so he sort of waddles when he walks but other then that I see no reason you could point at him and say he'd have been better off snuffed before he was born. I don't see him on bad days, and I suppose there are bad days, but still. His parents treasure him.
Cue the “thwarting God’s will” crowd.
