Pope Francis returned to one of his favorite topics this week, preaching against Christians who are “rigid” and resistant to change.
In his homily at morning Mass at his Santa Marta residence in the Vatican on Tuesday, the pope compared modern Christians hung up on doctrine, morals, or the liturgy with the “hypocritical” Pharisees and doctors of the law of Jesus’ time
People followed Jesus because he was “attractive, touched hearts, made himself loved,” Francis said, unlike the Pharisees who scrutinized everything “under a magnifying glass.”

The pope, in fact, gave a series of homilies sharply criticizing those who “accuse” others, particularly bishops, of wrongdoing, comparing them to Satan and his tactics.
Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, the former papal nuncio who released a bombshell report in late August accusing high-ranking prelates, including the pope, of mishandling the sex abuse crisis, took the pope’s words as aimed at himself.
Pope Francis “has compared his silence to that of Jesus in Nazareth and before Pilate, and compared me to the great accuser, Satan, who sows scandal and division in the Church — though without ever uttering my name,” the archbishop wrote in a recent 4-page statement.
“If he had said: ‘Viganò lied,’ he would have challenged my credibility while trying to affirm his own,” he continued. “Instead, he put in place a subtle slander against me — slander being an offense he has often compared to the gravity of murder. Indeed, he did it repeatedly, in the context of the celebration of the most Holy Sacrament, the Eucharist, where he runs no risk of being challenged by journalists.”

I think we take for granted just how well informed Freepers are. When I sometimes chat with family members and friends about current events, I almost always walk away shaking my head at their ignorance.
If she is not online looking at FR or various Catholic sites, she likely is in the dark.
Traditional publications like Diocesan newspapers are nothing but pro-Francis and pro-Wuerl propaganda. If I walked into my church and asked I’d probably be lucky to find five people who knew about this.

Catholics have tended to vote democrat until very recently
That may be an urban perspective more than religious historically

1) The day Benedict resigned, lightning hit St. Peter's Dome.
2) The day after we learned that Francis gave Cardinal Coccopalmerio the apartment that was later raided for cocaine-fueled gay orgies, the roof caved in of the Cardinal's titular Church, St. Peter's in Prison.
3) I shudder to think.
God will ultimately deal with these people but they may be able to get away with what they’re doing here on Earth for quite some time. That’s all I’m saying.

Catholic traditionalists will explain to you that it already did occur immediately following the conclusion of the Second Vatican Council.

It’s much better to be morally rigid in support of Scripture than morally bankrupt in rejecting it.

You were taught wrong. That is not a Catholic teaching, and never has been.
This silliness is mentioned in nearly every Pope related thread on FR, and soundly refuted just as often. Have you never read any of those comments of FR? Or are you just trying to stir the pot?
Although Jesus was loved by his true followers, the misguided pope needs to read John 6:32-66. In that passage Jesus taught that he is the bread of life that came down from heaven.
But in contrast to Pope Francis’ statement about Jesus, John 6:60-64 shows that Jesus was aware that his teaching actually offended many people, verse 64 indicating that he knew that many of them did not believe in him.
Verse 66 then indicates that many people no longer followed Jesus after that time.
