Stacy Abrams is attempting to become Governor of Georgia. One of her primary focuses is gun control and gun bans. From the article:
Near the end of Stacey Abrams’ latest town hall meeting, she heard a question that’s become a near-ritual at these events. A voter wanted to know if talk that Abrams “is going to take away all of the guns” is correct.
Her gun stance is a key factor in the race, not least because she embraces firearms restrictions and openly wars with the gun lobby, a shift that breaks with the party’s decades-old political approach to the debate in Georgia.
Below is an annotation of how she answered that question at the McDonough event, with her remarks in italics:
“I am not planning to confiscate and ban guns. This is what I say. I grew up in Mississippi. My great-grandmother taught me how to shoot a shotgun early. “She taught me two things: One, only shoot things you plan to eat if you’re going to go hunting. I basically eat chicken, so it’s pretty much a wash...."The case that “responsible” gun owners would demand new restrictions was one of the main arguments Abrams made during that nominating contest, and it’s carried over to the general election phase.
It also reflects another core pitch from Abrams: That demanding new limits on guns isn’t a liberal value, but a mainstream one. Her campaign often cites a recent Atlanta Journal-Constitution poll that shows most Georgia voters support additional gun restrictions.
“We need waiting periods because we know that we need time to find out what’s happened. We should make certain that no violent offender, especially a domestic abuser, has the ability to terrorize domestic abusers with a gun. “We have to make certain that automatic weapons and semi-automatic weapons that fire high-caliber rounds, that assault weapons are not allowed in Georgia.”She’s referring to her support of the 2016 proposal banning assault weapons, which was authored by Democratic state Rep. Mary Margaret Oliver and never gained any traction.
Left unmentioned is the part of the measure that would give state authorities authority to impound those weapons, a line that Second Amendment boosters such as Georgia Gun Owners have pounced on.
“We have to make sure that we understand that being violent doesn’t mean you’re mentally ill. Being mentally ill doesn’t mean you’re violent. But we’ve got to address both sides of that coin, and that’s why Medicaid expansion is so important because it provides access to mental health treatment and to support throughout the state of Georgia.”

Atlanta increasingly controlling the rest of the state.
Abrams: "Anything larger than .17 caliber is a high caliber round, and needs to be banned."
Define "assault weapon".
Abrams: "Any weapon that can be used to assault someone is an 'assault weapon'. This includes any firearm, knives, rocks, clubs, rakes, cars, and hands. This is a non-inclusive list."
Define "semi-automatic" weapon.
Abrams: "A semi-automatic weapon is any firearm that can fire one bullet per pull of the trigger. Single-shot breech-loaders are a good example of a semi-automatic weapon."
‘She’s not PLANNING’
Weasel words. Dems are nothing if not weasels and rats.
I live in GA now. This message resonates with the lunatic fringe D base. It is not going to sell outside metro Atlanta.
Furthermore, it doesn’t even sell well INSIDE the Perimeter.
I have a ton of friends who happen to be people of color who live downtown and South side.
They love their guns.
No actually Atlanta does not. There are a lot of dark red suburban areas around the core of dark Blue Atlanta
Here the problem. MOST of the poling done in GA comes from the AJC. It always points GA as being a “purple” state. So people outside GA always think it “in play”. There are a lot of religious hard working minorities here who the Dem assume are their voters. They actually have very little in common with Abrams sort of poltican.
Then surprise surprise on Election day, a good chunk of them vote R.
The “minority base” of the Democrat party in GA is not nearly as monolithic as Democrat pollsters, and the media, claim it is.

Yeh, sandblasting Stone Mountain and gun control are not winning issues in Georgia. Stacey is the worst candidate I have seen the Dems out up in my 32 years in this state. LOL!

Do you consider .223 to be a “High Caliber Weapon”?
Do you consider the most popular rifle type in the United States, the AR patterned .223 caliber semi-automatic, to be an “Assault Weapon”?
For somebody who grew up shooting chickens (!), she sure is ignorant.
We need to start using the “Seriousness of the accusation” scenario on these Democrats. It should not be a question it should be a statement.

Holy Smokes...”so domestic abusers don’t have the ability to terrorize domestic abusers with a gun?” Mercy - we wouldn’t want that to happen - whatever that means! Does that happen often, you nitwit?
I particularly like the “high caliber rounds” bit of her verbiage. Does she have a clue what she’s talking about?
GA gunowners WANT restrictions - yeah, she counts on the incompetence of the AJC for that tidbit.
She said her grandmother taught her two things about shooting a gun but she only named one. She must have forgotten what the second thing was. She should have taught her “don’t open your mouth if only garbage falls out.”
I’ve seen this ding-a-ling on TV ads and she eats more than chicken...more like a whole barnyard full of them - EVERY DAY - and for the past 40 years! I bet she weighs close to 300#. But I hear she has Elizabeth Warren and Hillary coming here to help her win. Heaven HELP US!!!!
