Why Donald Trump Will Likely Win A Second Term As President
HuffPost ^ | October 12, 2018 | Benjamin Waddell

Posted on 10/13/2018 4:59:55 PM PDT by EveningStar

On Oct. 6, 2018, Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed to the Supreme Court by the narrowest of margins, with 50 votes in favor and 48 votes against. He is the first justice in U.S. history to be confirmed by senators representing less than half of the country (44 percent), with a majority of the population (52 percent) opposed to his nomination.

Kavanaugh is the second Supreme Court justice picked by President Donald Trump. Trump, in turn, is the second president in five elections to enter the White House after losing the popular vote. In 2000, George W. Bush lost the popular vote to Al Gore by 540,520 votes but won the Electoral College after the Supreme Court halted the Florida recount. Similarly, Trump lost the popular vote to Hillary Clinton by an overwhelming 2,809,197 votes. But like Bush, Trump won the Electoral College, and thus the presidency.

The U.S. political system is institutionally rigged in favor of conservative white voters who drastically diverge from the political values of most Americans. This is why Kavanaugh was able to be confirmed by the Senate, and it’s the reason filmmaker Michael Moore, who predicted Trump’s victory in 2016, recently warned that Trump could very likely be a two-term president.

I am a scholar of migration, which wouldn’t seem to be related to the U.S. electoral system at all. However, a close look at demographic shifts in the United States over the 20th century helps us understand just how rigged America’s government is, how Trump became president and why it’s more likely than not that he’ll be re-elected in 2020.

...with a majority of the population (52 percent) opposed to his nomination.

If you can't make your point without lying, you have no point to make. This is a great example of the fake, lying media.

A majority do not support Kavanaugh...until it's explained there's no evidence and no witnesses she named support her account. They would not know if their only source of news is the fake, lying media.

After expressing surprise, a majority support him.

Democrats will still be stirring around the coals in their dying fire in 2024, and seeing what will catch and ignite. But what do they have for fuel? Trump has made a success of the constitution. That’s why their only answer is to tear things down. Obama said he would fundamentally transform America - well Trump is restoring America. Democrats continue to reveal their ugly core, it’s all out of the closet now. And it is being rejected. By most of America and some Democrats too. Very little will be left. And they know it now, that’s why there is such wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Before his election I figured that Trump would not be happy with all of the attacks and would only serve 4 years, if that.

Now it seems that the pressure eggs him on to show what he is capable of. He’s apparently not a guy to retire and spend a comfortable retirement. More power to him.

Utterly irrelevant. We have a bicameral legislature for a reason - smaller states, population-wise, wouldn’t have ratified the Constitution if they could have been run over by the larger states (which would be the case if we only had a single, population-based, legislature like the House. This is about states having power, as intended over 230 years ago. Frankly, I am surprised that this hasn’t happened before...but, then again, it has only been relatively recently that we have become so divided on the approval of judges and Justices.

I wondered why an article saying President Trump would be reelected would be on HuffPo, until I read the first couple of paragraphs. The article is basically saying the Constitution is racist, because of the Electoral College and the Senate. Now its being on HuffPo makes sense.

I suspect Trump will not run again. Who wants to be Presidentin’ at the age of 77?

Trump is not an ordinary man. At 71 he has twice the vitality and energy of men half his age.

President Trump thrives on adversity and winning.

He is winning now as no Conservative has for 70 years, including Reagan.

With President Trump's competitive drive, he will want to be recorded as the most influential president since Lincoln or FDR.

He has a good shot to do so.

Huffers, Your little stats are true only because no matter who was nominated, the leftists were going to vote against them. Don't whine about the electoral college.

You lost the presidential election. Your fault.

That is not the narrowest of margins.

It’s stunning how they’re now suddenly going after the Senate as “disproportional.” Weird how they just noticed this. I mean, hello, the Senate has been disproportional since day-freaking-one, 1787. It’s not as if Rhode Island and New York were ever comparable in population. So what do they want to do? Abolish the Senate in favor of a unicameral system? Or “reform” the Senate by allocating seats in proportion of population (i.e., clone the House)? Why even bother with bicameral legislatures if representation in each body is based on identical criteria?

There were 106,000 to 172,000 Gary Johnson voters in WI, MI & PA in 2016

Look at say PA in 2012, Gary Johnson only got about 50,000 votes!! 2016 he had around 146,000 votes!

TRUMP is going to get alot of those #NeverTRUMP Gary Johnson voters in PA, MI & WI

Have you guys seen #NeverTRUMPers like Beck, Michelle Malkin, Dana Loesch, Katie Pavlich & Ben Shapiro talk about TRUMP now? 😅 🤣 😂

➡️ Glenn: 'I'll vote for Trump.'

TRUMP has consolidated #NeverTRUMPers, he probably has 75% of them now. There are still some stubborn #NeverTRUMPers like George Will, Bill Kristol, Brad Thor & Bret Stephens but they are the minority

All TRUMP needs is MI or PA or WI & IA & all the logical TRUMP States & he is POTUS again!

TRUMP can afford to lose 2 out of the 3 BLUE States! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Not after the passage of the 17th Amendment.

Now the Senate is just a higher-priced version of the House.
