From the article it seems to me that the knife wielder came very close to winning this fight.
The victim’s 24-year-old cousin, who was waiting in his car nearby, overheard the noise and stepped out with his firearm, which he has a valid permit to carry. After he was also stabbed by the attacker (in the elbow), the cousin shot and killed the man.
The attacker managed to stab the cousin before being shot.
At close distances a knife can be as lethal as a firearm. An elbow wound sounds like a defensive wound. Perhaps he blocked a knife strike with his arm thereby receiving the elbow wound. Without video it can’t be said just how close the cousin came to losing the battle.
Lesson here; don’t let an attacker get close. Shoot him first.
first rule of situational awareness, if you see anyone who looks questionable, always try to keep something, anything, between you and them. A car, tree, trash can, whatever. It will slow down a lunge attack just enough time to draw and get on target.

While I do not personally involve myself in pagan rituals like “All Hallows Eve”, I do attend every year with my local grand daughters. They always ask me what I am going to dress up as, and as usual for the last 8 years now, I tell them “your body guard”. They say “Papa, why don’t you be a XXX or YYY? I say because I can’t. I wear my Safari land covert vest, double up on spare mags, tactical trousers, concealed body armor “Don’t tread on me” ball cap, clear ballistic glasses ( at night, dark lens in the afternoon) Gerber MkII fighting knife and both of my mini-Glocks or one and the 1911 and first aid pocket pack. I look like a SS agent or a PD officer, which is what I am actually functioning as. I usually get a few comments- “you look like a DAC contractor” or “good secret agent costume”. I often comment “move along now, the princesses are busy collecting goodies” or something.
It’s funny, but Nana, who is wheelchair bound, once asked if I was going to conceal a carbine under the chair.... She got mad when I trial fitted one...
You see, the thing is I can run and or fight, but they cannot. Daddies and Papas everywhere ( and Mommies and Nana’s too), up arm and stand vigilant. Every day.
