You mean they charge you to NOT take it? Weird...
I’m going to age into Medicare next year and am dreading it. Nothing but substandard medical care from those who even bother to accept Medicare. And in Alaska, a significant number of providers refuse to accept Medicare patients.
I just checked it out. I don’t plan on using insurance. If something really bad happens I plan on dying. I didn’t mention this before, but we’ve not had health care insurance since the day Obamacare came into effect, 1/1/2014. In that time we’ve had one serious illness. It lasted a month and got worse and worse. I finally told my wife to schedule an MRI before we went to a specialist, but that night I laid hands on her and prayed on Jesus’ faith that she be healed. The next day it was completely gone. This is the second miracle healing for us.
The Lord will take us when he’s good and ready, and life is an adventure. Some of that time may be spent with less than optimum limbs, organs, mental capacity, etc. Cancer or similar will not be treated. Life is a mist.

Government health care now structured like the progressive income tax. The rich have to pay more for the very same level of care. Sounds like discrimination to me.
Like Rush says, “if it weren’t for Government, we wouldn’t need government.”
Cancer or similar will not be treated. Life is a mist.
Had the prostate removed. Medicare B and a Supplemental Plan covered everything. Recent PSA tests show that there are still some of the little bastards around, so I go in for radiation treatments in the next few weeks. Prognosis is good, but without Medicare B & Supplemental Plan I’d be out tens of thousands. Except for gout, I’ve enjoyed very good health, up until the cancer diagnosis. Just saying, you never know.
“And in Alaska, a significant number of providers refuse to accept Medicare patients.”

Astonishing!
I’ve been on Medicare for 21 years—and only had ONE doctor,a specialist, refuse to take Medicare.
.
I plan to keep working, not only because I am a couple of years younger but because I enjoy it.
Can she still get social security on the basis of my working?
We trust the Lord.
BTW, my wife’s first husband dies in his late 20’s of leukimia, leaving her with three kids under the age of 8 and no life insurance.
Couldn’t tell you. You could call your state’s SHIP office for medicare questions. Just make sure she doesn’t miss her guaranteed issue period.
Can she still get social security on the basis of my working?
I kept working after age 65, but Medicare/a plan F supplemental/part D drug plan were cheaper and gave me better coverage than my work’s plan.
We trust the Lord.
I think Rush is right, but on the discrimination issue with regards to health....wouldn’t it be discrimination against the poor if they paid the same rates as the rich with a lot less income? That could mean that many of us would have no health care.
If it’s not one price for all, as it was originally instituted, then it is discrimination. It’s now IRS 2.0, just another progressive income tax in another form.
why?....you don’t think you’ll ever get sick?
as I understand it, I will be enrolled in Medicare automatically but don't have to sign up for the other parts until I actually retire and don't have health benefits thru work....
My wife and I both turn 65 in a couple months (six days apart). Plan A only for us, and I dont expect to use it.
Nobody expects to get sick, until they do. You could find yourself stuck in a crappy plan with no way to get out. I am in Plan G, which is guaranteed renewable for life as long as I pay the premium - currently $112/mo.

Ken, I cannot watch the YouTube now. Will later, but can you tell me who the presenter is? His expertise? Thanks!
“My wife ages into medicare next year. I could keep her on my plan at work ($170 per month) or put her on Part B with a supplement for less.
I plan to keep working, not only because I am a couple of years younger but because I enjoy it.

First, as others have recommended, go in person with your wife to your local Social Security office *and* your employer’s HR office to get advice on these questions. It will probably cost your wife $134/month for Plan B plus about $180/month for a high-deductible supplemental policy (like Plan G or F). Some employers require age 65+ spouses to carry Medicare (Parts A and B) as their primary insurer.
Second, if your wife is 62 or older and has enough work credit (40 quarters more of covered employment), she can collect Social Security regardless of your work status or her Medicare status.
” ... as I understand it, I will be enrolled in Medicare automatically but don’t have to sign up for the other parts until I actually retire and don’t have health benefits thru work.... “
This is correct. You will be enrolled automatically in Part A at 65 but you can defer Part B without penalty as long as you have insurance in a “qualified” plan through your employer.
