Top ABC brass may have acted too swiftly by pulling the plug on Roseanne - and they now fear the show's replacement spin-off will flop without its star.
Two senior executives at the network have told DailyMailTV that firing the actress was a 'knee-jerk' reaction by ABC's president and admitted that temporarily suspending Barr may have been a wiser decision.
'We didn't think it through properly. What Roseanne did was wrong but we shouldn't have rushed to fire her. It was almost a knee-jerk reaction by Ben [Sherwood] and Channing [Dungey] who should have launched an investigation,' one insider said.
'This would have given them more time to listen to the public, advertisers and cast members to determine the best decision.'
The highly-anticipated reboot of the popular 90s sitcom was axed in May, just three months into its return after Barr, 65, made a racist tweet about former Obama aide Valerie Jarrett.

She should mock ABC if she gets a new show.
For one..being anti free speech.
The over-emotional Left Never think about the details!
Going after the reruns was crazy, extremely Orwellian. Roseanne did nothing wrong. It was to send a message for others to support Soros’s orders or their careers will be destroyed.
Trump was a democrat until about 3 years ago?
Do we forget? No.
Do we get over it? You bet.
ABC has tons of money they don’t mind throwing it away
How are they going to bring her character back? They killed it off.
- -
The old who killed JR it-was-only-a-dream gambit?
Hope it finishes last in the ratings
And therefore it should not be forgiven?! Yikes!!
Last Man Standing had some very funny promos aimed at ABC and some good zingers in the first episode on Fox.
Hahaha.. Love it! Or she should start a whole new show with a whole new family on Fox.
How are they going to bring her character back? They killed it off.
They killed off John Goodman's character in the finale of the first run.
Do we forgive the NFL National Anthem Kneelers, even if they do apologize?
John Goodman is good, but his character only works well bouncing off of Roseanne’s character.
Nailed it!
“when Last Man Standing was cancelled, it was picked up by another network and got huge ratings”
ABC cancelled it when it was getting rave reviews. Heard it was because Tim Allen attended Trump’s Inauguration.
Fox picked it up. Supposedly, last Friday’s episode (second episode since on Fox) broke all kinds of records for viewership.
That would be fantastic.
“You can not say anything negative about poc, homosexuals,trans-whatevers,Muslims,illegals or liberal women.”
And Roseanne did not of those things. She made an mistake, but the PC crowd read something in to it that was not intended. You really can’t say anything any more; it can be misconstrued.
I got scolded on FR recently by using the phrase, “going ghetto” which, to me, means freaking out, MS-13, behaving like animals, etc. I wasn’t thinking “black” in any way, shape, or form, but I was scolded.
“Roseanne could take HER show to another network.
Create a dream scene that explains her death”
No; not the original show. Roseanne should take a NEW show to another network, with new cast, plot, etc., and screw the original cast members who threw her under the bus. Amnesia (what else?). New city. New family. New everything.
And Reagan was not only a Democrat, he was the President of the Screen Actors Guild. In fact, I think I heard Reagan made a change to Frank Rizzo’s quote when he said a “Republican is a Democrat that got audited by the IRS.” (Reagan became a conservative when he got audited)
“Fox should hire her as a neighbor of the last man standing.
say shes in witness protection”
OMG! That’s perfect. Or, since Larrabee’s wife is gone, he could marry Roseanne.
