Top ABC brass may have acted too swiftly by pulling the plug on Roseanne - and they now fear the show's replacement spin-off will flop without its star.
Two senior executives at the network have told DailyMailTV that firing the actress was a 'knee-jerk' reaction by ABC's president and admitted that temporarily suspending Barr may have been a wiser decision.
'We didn't think it through properly. What Roseanne did was wrong but we shouldn't have rushed to fire her. It was almost a knee-jerk reaction by Ben [Sherwood] and Channing [Dungey] who should have launched an investigation,' one insider said.
'This would have given them more time to listen to the public, advertisers and cast members to determine the best decision.'
The highly-anticipated reboot of the popular 90s sitcom was axed in May, just three months into its return after Barr, 65, made a racist tweet about former Obama aide Valerie Jarrett.

She could do a whole new show. Shes creative, Ill bet she can come up with some hilarious characters
While I’m a big John Goodman fan, I’ll be boycotting “The Conners”.
More like NOT INTERESTED in it.
The reboot was first rate. Then NBC screwed the pooch.
“Were you annoyed when the left went digging decades back into Kavanaughs past?”
We know what Roseanne did to our National Anthem, but what was said about Justice Kavanaugh was fiction.
A show without the star and they are afraid it will bomb?
They can never make it right again. Roseanne should tell them to siuta
That is a good point.
“roseanne will likely do the same after its canceled.”
Only after. ABC owns the contract, and none of the actors can be on any other show without ABC permission.
Until they’re all fired through cancellation.
They’ll bring her black...
LOL...Post of the day!
I’m sure it WILL crash. They made this mess -— now they get to eat it.
What REALLY cheeses me off is that they took all Roseanne's reruns off. What's that thing about re-writing history?
The angel could be black.
OMG, you're still holding that against her? Too bad for you, she's a great conservative with a big following.
The angel could be black.
In the dream that is.
Regarding comments about ValJar, Barr is not a rassisss: “I thought the b!tch was WHITE!” she exclaimed. For me, I thought the b!tch was an MB Muppet.
Handle it like they did the Mandy character on Last Man Standing. They made a joke out of the fact that "Mandy" now looks like a different woman.
Just make a joke out of Roseanne not being dead and every character just accepts it.
Her singing of our National Anthem is part of her history.
It should not be erased, it should not be forgotten.
They can still destroy the episodes already filmed, restore the original cast, and shoot new episodes as a mid-season replacement.

Roseanne needs to start having some LONG talks with FOX.
They were smart enough to bring Last Man Standing back to us.
Way back there was The Betty White Show. Her character played an actress on a TV cop show. In one episode the character of the police chief died, only to have a character that was the chief’s twin brother (same actor) take the chief’s job. Very funny and well acted.
