Yes, ‘Medicare for all’ would do away with private healthcare plans
Washington Examiner ^ | 10/12/2018 | by Philip Klein , Kimberly Leonard, & Robert King

When President Trump declared in a USA Today op-ed that the Democrats' "Medicare for all" proposal would "outlaw" private health insurance, CNN's Jim Acosta indignantly tweeted that this was "false." But reading the text of the leading proposal by Sen. Bernie Sanders makes clear that Trump's op-ed was correct.

"It is right there in their proposed legislation: Democrats outlaw private health plans that offer the same benefits as the government plan." This is, in fact, 100 percent accurate. The plan would require, in four years time, for individuals to be enrolled in the new government plan at birth. At that point, Section 107 of the plan says, “it shall be unlawful for — (1) a private health insurer to sell health insurance coverage that duplicates the benefits provided under this Act; or (2) an employer to provide benefits for an employee, former employee, or the dependents of an employee or former employee that duplicate the benefits provided under this Act."

In effect, this would mean that the roughly 180 million people who depend on private insurance would see their existing plans go away. Though the bill does allow for limited supplemental coverage, because the government plan promises to offer such a wide swath of benefits (including hospitalization, primary and preventive care, prescription drugs, dentistry and vision care), there won’t be much left over for private insurers.

“Medicare for all would accelerate the physician workforce decline”

Are medical schools having trouble attracting or keeping students?

Government pays for healthcare the government decides who gets care. Welcome death panels and faceless bureaucrats deciding who gets care, where the care is provided and how much care you get. Like Obama said the cheap blue pill is good enough for you.

Once employee withholding to pay for cost sharing of health insurance became greater than federal tax withholding, the government became a curiously interested party regarding my healthcare.

Oh no, it most certainly would not! " the Democrats' "Medicare for all" proposal would "outlaw" private health insurance

No politician would lose their Blue Chip taxpayer provided premium health care, you can bet your Image and video hosting by TinyPic (ASS)that our elected officials and their government lackeys as well as the wealthy will always have private health care plans while we the unwashed taxpayer will be told what is best for us by our employees.

But like the rest of the world with socialized medicine, it will not do away with private healthcare.

Those with the means will still be able to pay for their preferred doctor, and private hospitals will flourish.

Perfect example is the U.K. where there public NHS-run hospitals and private hospitals.

Guess where the best and the brightest practice medicine?

Did you see Forbes on dems tax hike plan?? It was posted here a few days ago.

I put it on my fb because I have liberal friends who do see my posts and reply to them. Nothing.

I am astounded!! What are they thinking???

They don't care if their taxes are 80% of their paycheck. What is wrong with them????

In Canada, people can still purchase private coverage if they want.

Having lived in two states bordering Canada and worked in healthcare all of my life, I can tell you that Canadians quite often come south for the important stuff. And pay cash for it too. By this I mean diagnostic medicine.

Some of my friends from just across the border have been told drugs they were taking had "run out" when they were plentiful here in America. Why is that?

Finally I have had Canadian friends tell me symptoms they had sought help for - for *years* in the Canadian system - and made suggestions which led to exactly the dx I strongly suspected. Hypothyridism. Celiac disease. These are not zebras.

But socialized medicine is a dream! Really it is. It's the greatest!!

A lot of the cost would be hidden as more redistribution of income. Under Obamacare, middle class premiums and deductibles skyrocketed (except for government employees, union members, and large corporate employees).

The money collected by whacking the middle class subsidized the Obamacare subsidies of those earning 180% of the poverty level or less and the Medicaid expansion for the poor. For the most part, Obamacare was a massive redistribution program with most of the cost hidden with much higher premiums and deductibles for the middle class.

With “Socialized Medicine for All” the government has much more ability to manipulate relative cost between groups and will do so ruthlessly to benefit the classes that vote for government or the large corporate entities that lobby and make campaign contributions. That pretty much leaves the middle class, again, as lunch.

Though Sanders has touted a part of the study saying that overall private and public health spending could be reduced by $2 trillion, that assumes the plan would cut reimbursement hospitals and doctors currently receive from private health insurance by 40 percent, given that Medicare pays lower rates.”””

Well, Bernie, I can assume that you will be under the dirt by the time hospitals are no longer open & there are no doctors anymore to treat anyone, so you don’t really give a damn.

I’m sure it also allows for dwindling eligibility for aggressive treatment for most age related disease processes; plus, don’t participate in the government’s “preventative health guidelines”? -— no treatment for YOU!

Eh, let’s throw another one in there for grins: Each CongressCritter must personally read the legislation before voting on it. OR All legislation will be read out loud with a quorum present before voting on it.

Are medical schools having trouble attracting or keeping students?

I've talked to several very bright, accomplished young people who told me they changed their minds about going to med school after Obamacare passed.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

for the important stuff. And pay cash for it too

The act of consuming services that are payed for with other people's money is inherently political.

And it's only right that those paying the bills (the taxpayers) have a say in what gets paid for.

I have one question. How is this paid for if everyone who used to buy private insurance is now getting it for free?

It won’t be free, there will some sort of tax to pay for it. most likely a 15 to 20% payroll tax. Of course that will cut down on most people’s disposable income.
