Conservatives try to defend themselves from the content of the lie, instead of saying: IT’S A LIE. THEY ARE LYING.

It’s because of a Senate rule that defers nominees from their home state the gift of running it by them. I believe the Senate rule is a courtesy and not a requirement needing a rule change like the filibuster.
