Full title: Sen. Hirono Condemns McConnell Calling Leftist Protestors a 'Mob', Says It 'Dangerously Underestimates' Them
Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-HI) slammed Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) Thursday for using the word mob in reference to left-wing protestors that have been targeting GOP lawmakers over the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
It is the richest of ironies that the majority leader has taken to calling those opposed to the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh a mob when several nights a month the president whips his supporters into a frenzy to attack his target of choice, she said in a Senate Judiciary Committee meeting.
Hirono then issued a somewhat ominous message to McConnell, warning him that he was dangerously underestimating" what Kavanaugh's confirmation had "awakened."
To characterize the women who identified with Dr. Ford, who demonstrated and marched here to Washington from around the country to demand the Senate not confirm a man credibly accused of sexual assault as a mob dangerously underestimates what this confirmation process awakened, she said.
Women are tired of being dismissed and disbelieved and if you want to be responsive to the American people we would all be wise to listen to them with respect, Hirono concluded.
In his floor speech on Tuesday, McConnell referred to the unhinged tactics of leftist protestors which included chasing GOP senators out of restaurants and in airports , screaming at them in the halls and floor of the Senate, and even banging and clawing at the doors of the Supreme Court.
The far-left mob is not letting up, he said Tuesday. Earlier today former Secretary of State Clinton sent this signal as clear as today. This is Secretary Clinton. She told CNN exactly how she views millions of Americans who hold different political views from her own.
Heres what she said: You cannot be civil with a political party that wants to destroy what you stand for. If were fortunate enough to win back the House and/or the Senate, thats when civility can start again, he continued, simply quoting Clintons remarks .
While she would like McConnell to condemn the word mob, Sen. Hirono has refused to condemn protestors targeting the GOP in restaurants and at their homes.
"It is one thing to protest at the Supreme Court, CNNs Dana Bash told Hirono, it's another thing to run senators out of restaurants, go to their homes. Is that going too far?"
"I think that it just means that there are a lot of people who are very, very much motivated by what is going on, Hirono replied, because what happened with Judge Kavanaugh is from the very beginning, this was not a fair process."
"Well, this is what happens, you know, because when you look at white supremacists and all of that, this is what is coming forth in our country," she added. "There is a tremendous divisiveness in our country, but this is the kind of activism that occurs, and people make their own decisions. If they violate the law, then they have to account for that."
Sen. Hirono is not the only one who has developed sudden scruples over the use of the word "mob" to describe the extreme leftist protestors. CNN hosts Brooke Baldwin and Don Lemon have both chastised CNN panelists for using the term, claiming that it is being weaponized by the right.
Free Beacon's Andrew Kugle compiled clips of the behavior of leftist protestors with clips of the CNN hosts condemning the term mob:
SUPERcut of reporters telling people to not use the "mob" word cut with video of the mob.
Crazy Mazie acts as if hers is the last word on politics and social behavior.
Never heard of her until a few days ago.
She’s had her ass handed to her with Kavanaugh’s approval and official arrival to the Supreme Court, so, her words are just vibrations of thin air.
Mazie...go back to your Lei-making, and shut up.
Gee, I wonder who started that?
We’re not underestimating them at all, which is why we are calling them a mob.
If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, looks like a duck... it’s a MOB. For that matter, Mazie is a fraud, and a liar. They’ve been pinned with the correct appellation, and that is MOB. It is up to them if they wish to continue their direction to violence and criminal behavior, but the name stays... MOB!
A mob armed with bongs, dildos, pink hats and cats, but a mob nonetheless.
George Orwell was before his time. It is here now. Cannot speak the truth. The truth is a lie.
Pearl Harbor all over again
Agreed...Hopefully Hirono keeps flapping her gums, like Mad Maxine she’s only hurting the RATs.
Watch out or she’ll grab a Val dive bomber from the Air & Space Museum.
Hit the mob where it hurts. Bring up how they are so mob-like every chance we get. ;)
Well, Schumer wouldn't dare tell her to stop acting batty.
She's got a lot of company in that tie: Barbara Boxer, Patty Murray, Maxine Waters, Hank Johnson, on and on ...
The upside of this is that NORMAL people watch video of these mobs on the news trying to claw open the doors of the Supreme Court, shrieking and moaning inside, and think “Good God! People like her are completely okay with this behavior!”
As Dan Bongino says, they probably turn to their kids watching and say “Kids...that isn’t us. We don’t do that kind of thing.”
My toilet seat is smarter than Sen. Hirono.
Trump’s “whipping up” his “mob” to attack politically ... at the polls.
Watch what you wish for. The last time this sort of thing spun out of control, 625,000 men died over five years. That's more Americans than died in both World Wars, Korea, and Vietnam combined. That amounted to 2 percent of the population at the time, which would be the equivalent to about 6 million Americans dying today. Plus it took about a full century to finally bind up the national wounds from that conflict.
Well said, I hadn’t heard of her either and it looks like she and dumbbell Booker have teamed up.
She is right, this has (along with the media, and the elected democratic leadership pushing the narrative) aroused a true storm-trooper, brown-shirt hatred in a subsection of the population.
I have a “friend”, a person I work with, seemed like a rational human being, who suffered through multiple sexual assaults in her life, which is a horrific and unimaginable history for me.
THe me-too movement, the unmasking of real predators like Wienstein, has been good for her (I would argue that abuse victims need better counseling to find solace in their own being, rather than in the unpredictable reactions of the illiterate masses). She and others like her have started to make real progress combating the sex-assault culture of some of the rock/punk band world, getting bands to fire people known to have assaulted fans.
But then, something seems to have snapped, she believed every word the democrats and media told her about BK, so of course she can’t imagine how he got confirmed, and she ws already livid that Trump gets to be president, (although I don’t remember her expressing ill-feelings when she learned in her schooling how a rapist got to be president for 8 years while his wife called victims names).
So now she is on a social media vendetta against men, at least those who don’t bow in abeyance to anything she says. I watched her actually friend a guy, just so she could then attack him, lie about him, and then screen-cap it for her adoring mob.
Anyway, it concerns me, and while i hope people realize before it is too late, history is replete with cases where the end result of this type of mob mentality is Hitler’s Germany, where everybody who objects is scared to do anything for fear of the mob.
It is a good time not to have an internet presence, and to stay below the radar, but we need people to be brave and stand up to this crap.
The media has been given it’s marching orders. Focus grouping has determined that the characterization of their supporters rampaging as a ‘mob’ has been resonating with normal folk, so that term can no longer be used.
so if mob underestimates them, he should refer to the mob as domestic terrorists i guess...
