Government agencies are still issuing taxpayer guarantees on more than 90 percent of mortgages -- many with less than 5 percent down payments.

The question is not whether these folks can afford a house. The correct question is whether they can afford to maintain a house.

Yes, Moody’s was caught red handed and somehow Buffet and the Washington Post kept the corruption news at low boil so there was no penalty for selling higher ratings to the highest bidder.

But the GSEs like Freddy and Fannie are dead zero when you are targeting who is mostly to blame. The rating agencies were helpful tools to keep the fraud going. You could put them second in the concentric circles of blame.

And if you want to add the house and Senate banking committees in the bullseye, I could not argue.There can be an open debate as to whether the GSEs bought congress or if congress created the corruption in the first place.
