Former NASA astronaut and Navy veteran Scott Kelly apologized Sunday after facing backlash for a tweet praising Winston Churchill.
“One of the greatest leaders of modern times, Sir Winston Churchill said, ‘in victory, magnanimity.’ I guess those days are over,” Mr. Kelly, a veteran of four space flights, tweeted to his 5.76 million followers Sunday afternoon.
Seven hours later, Mr. Kelly apologized for the quote, saying he would work on educating himself on Churchill’s purported misdeeds.
"Did not mean to offend by quoting Churchill. My apologies. I will go and educate myself further on his atrocities, racist views which I do not support."

I would never, ever, apologize for quoting the words of someone else...it’s their words, not mine.
I don't have to be scrutinized for it, but I love ya Winnie. You were great. One of the very greats.
His apology offends me.
Astronauts are mere cargo these days. Anyone can do it, even extremely stupid people like this human ballast and his brother.
I can only wonder in amusement what Winston Churchill might have to say about this male version of Lady Astor.
It is a shame that gravity dictates that this type of human must return to earth after we spend so much energy sending him into orbit.
How very sad. Makes me want to cry.
We need to grow a backbone here, or the lies, smears, and outright bullying of the Left will succeed.
Easy for me to say because I wasn’t the one being howled at by the Twitter mob, but Mr Kelly should have responded with another Churchill quote:
“I have never heard the opposite of the truth stated with greater precision.”
In fact, Churchill is on the list Nancy Pelosi plans to have the FBI investigate (after the Blue Tsunami restores her power) to explore possible impeachment proceedings. If he's convicted, all images of him, mentions of him, his speeches, books he wrote, etc, will be 1984ed from the historical record.
Another d-bag like the last _resident who caused the Churchill bust in the White House to be put into storage. He, his twin brother and sister-in-law are mere meat puppets, dancing to the latest Soros & Bloomberg tune. At least Gabby has brain-injury for an excuse but her husband is a swine for the way he uses her in the same way James Brady was used by his wife.
People are affected by the times they live in. We only gradually move away from stymied beliefs that are often suspected to be wrong even by those of their time but still are carried through by ones who see differently.
