We had them when I left in 1983, so I think the author is worried for no reason. Also, laser weapons are a lot further along than what they’ll disclose.

Does anybody believe the select committees in the House and Senate will approve development of truly effective non-nuclear weapons, capable of destroying critical enemy nuclear targets?

It only takes ONE liberal to stop such a program.

The Army has had hypervelocity anti tank missiles under development for more than 20 years. No existing or future tank can survive a hit from one of these. Except that, when we don’t field them, they can’t kill a single tank.

We need to get the Chinese spies out of our Government and industrial base first, otherwise we develop stuff, and they field it faster and cheaper.

From Popular Science, Feb 2018 (https://www.popsci.com/china-navy-railgun-warship):

A GLOBAL FIRST: Type 072III landing ship tank (LST) Haiyang Shan, #936, would be the world's first railgun-armed warship. Its small size and lack of combat features means that it will likely be used to test and validate the technologies of the railgun.

Its barrel length makes the Chinese railgun similar in size to the BAE 32 megajoule railgun built for U.S. Navy testing. The BAE system is designed to fire 22-pound projectiles at Mach 7 speeds to more than 100 miles. The United States had earlier planned to install a railgun prototype on the USNS Trenton fast transport in 2016, but this was postponed for budgetary reasons.

Last I read they were still testing rail guns for rate of fire and platform durability. Still got to figure out how to fit on a boat and supply the amps.

It is very hard to maneuver hypersonic missiles, It seems the main weakness is in the ability of someone to positively target someone, especially a mobile target.

Russia demonstration was against a known target with all the target information available, why the weakness is that you often have limited or very basic target information.

I suspect in real wargaming we would find a large number of misses. If we were under the belief that no hostilities were underway we might not react the way we need to when being targeted but they would only get one shot.

After that we are going to be zigging and zagging all over the place in a random pattern.

I don’t really seeing the current generation of these missiles being effective.

What they need is a two missile system where you have a targeting cruise missile to provide target information to the launcher and the hypersonic in flight to ensure a target has perfect targeting information.

This targeting missile would ideally be very stealthy.

Of course a stealthy drone could do the same.
