A writer for CBS's "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" on Sunday apologized for her "sarcasm" in a deleted tweet about newly confirmed Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
Ariel Dumas on Saturday tweeted, "Whatever happens, I'm just glad we ruined Brett Kavanaugh's life." The post quickly went viral, as multiple conservative pundits retweeted it with critical commentary.
Dumas the next day said the tweet was a "tone-deaf attempt at sarcasm."
"The last couple of weeks have been hard for the country and for me personally," she wrote. "The complexity of frustration, anger and sadness cant be accurately conveyed on twitter, and I regret my tone-deaf attempt at sarcasm in the wake of it."

Ariel Dumas (@ArielDumas) October 7, 2018 She posted earlier in the week that she was "emotionally shattered by the current state of affairs."
Kavanaugh during his confirmation process over the past several weeks faced multiple allegations of sexual misconduct, which he denied.
He was confirmed to the Supreme Court on Saturday.
Dumas' original tweet came as Kavanaugh was being confirmed.
She posted an article earlier in the week that criticized Kavanaugh for saying the accusations had "ruined" him.
"In his statements to the committee, Judge Kavanaugh said the allegations against him had ruined his life even though he may well be confirmed to a lifetime appointment on the Supreme Court," read The New York Times article by writer Roxane Gay, from which Dumas tweeted screenshots.
"The bar for a man's ruin is, apparently, quite low," Gay wrote. "May we all be so lucky as to have our lives ruined."
"...Shes still employed?..."
Well, hes now a Supreme Court Justice and shes still a DumbAss.
So sad she isnt fired.
Being glad you ruined someone’s life, yeah, that’s real complex.
The world of social media has now tatooed Ariel Dumas' cruel comment onto her soul.
What an integrity-free loser.
An Alexander Dumas she isn’t and never will be!
Just another CBS skank. They breed them like maggots.
Yes. Vote and lock and load.
Beautiful
I hate Colbett. First class mediocre craphead. Wish I read some day that a Trump supporter gives him an instant facelift.
Yep. People like this skank help manufacture venom for Colbert to spew.
He’s too dumb to create it himsrlf.
Ariel darling your comments reek of hate.
Did your boss Steven Colbert style your hair? You look like you pulled an all nighter.
>> “we ruined Kavanaugh’s life.”
A nasty attempt by Ariel and the rest of the wicked Left. But in fact, Ariel, you further condemned yours.
The Democrat Thug Party can go to Hell.
Rosie her.
There’s a real dumb ass somewhere. Anyone that named their baby Ariel Dumas is a real dumb ass or anybody that would use that as an alias is a real dumb ass.
She wrote “the complexity of frustration, anger and sadness.”
She did not write “the complexity of reason, intellectual investigation, and thinking.”
Right on!
