For a while. The young leftists get bored or distracted easily. They will move on after a time to the outrage du jour and Brett Kavanaugh, Susan Collins and the rest will continue on. Yes, they'll bleat "rapist" and "traitor" when their names come up in conversation or online message boards, but will be too occupied with the next social movement, big legislation, election, etc. and leave it there. And some of them will grow up and realize they have bills to pay.

This is journalism in 2018, a single source accusation of a 1982(?) incident where the accuser cannot recall ANY specifics EXCEPT whom she believes the perp to be! Look up 'accused' in the dictionary and you find "charged with" or "on trial for" in the definition, whereas this matches, at the most partisan level, 'alleged' which is defined as "saying without proof".

The reporting you describe goes back at least to 1992 LA riots when media helicopters would hover over empty intersections in vulnerable areas and broadcast over TV news “here’s an intersection that’s still calm” so they could be on site for the “spontaneous eruption of violence” at that location.
