Downtown Los Angeles hit with outbreak of flea-borne typhus

LOS ANGELES — An outbreak of flea-borne typhus has hit downtown Los Angeles, the county Department of Public Health said Thursday. Health officials say they are investigating several cases of the disease that infected fleas can spread to humans, CBS Los Angeles reports.

While the fleas can come from cats, rats and opossums, pets and animals do not get sick from typhus.

In people, however, typhus can cause high fever, chills, headache and rash. It is not transmitted from person to person and can be treated with antibiotics.

"Although typhus normally occurs throughout L.A. County, we are observing several cases in the downtown Los Angeles area," Los Angeles County Health Officer Muntu Davis said in a statement. "We encourage pet owners to practice safe flea control and encourage all cities in the county to ensure maintenance of their trash clean-up and rodent control activities."

Typhus can spread in areas where there is an accumulation of trash that attracts wild animals like feral cats, rats and opossums.

To help prevent typhus, the department recommended that residents:

* Practice safe flea control

* Use flea control products on pets

* Wear pants tucked into socks or boots when outside; Spray insect repellent with DEET on socks and pant cuffs

* Avoid being near wild or stray animals

* Never feed or touch wild animals, especially opossums, rats and stray or feral cats

* Store trash in cans with secure lids to avoid attracting animals

* Clear areas where rats and stray animals sleep, hide or find food, such as crawl spaces, attics or under decks; Wear gloves and a mask when clearing these areas

That last point makes me think of the homeless, who probably sleep near places where wild animals will go.

I know I shouldn’t laugh but it is kinda funny... Who would have expect this with the meager million or so third-world $*&t-holers they have welcomed into California?

Could only be more appropriate if it happened in San Francisco or Chicago. Lived in SoCal for 20 years. I miss the activities and the beauty of the state, but unless the residents throw out the Democrats, it will only get worse out there.

from “https://www.vocabulary.com/articles/chooseyourwords/decent-descent-dissent/";

Decent is all buttoned up. Descent has all the fun because it gets to climb down a mountain. Dissent is what you do when the glee club wants to get matching red outfits but you like purple.

2) Deport them all.

_________s bring _________ with them wherever they go. If you don’t want to live in __________, you can’t import millions of _________s into your society. In before NAXALT!

The people are not homeless. They just do not own real estate or have street addresses.

Given these homeless encampments, I’m actually surprised we don’t have a massive outbreak of communicable diseases.

This is one reason I will not be going to the free Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival this weekend in SF where 200,000+ folks—a small portion of whom are street/thug types who bring dogs—congregate.

And we are assured that Typhus cannot be transmitted from one person to another so we need not fear brushing up against bums on the street. However, a flee that has typhus can hop off that victim onto a passing ankle on the street. Or a non infected flea can bite a bum, become infected, and go on to bite another human. What other flea borne diseases are out there waiting to become a “problem” in cities flooded with vagrants and bums? And lice? How about just feces here there and everywhere and being washed about by the rain? It is/was only a matter of time.

I appears to me that the Democrats running the states that are heading toward bankruptcy have planned this so the Federal Government will have no choice but to take control of those states. If they take control of those states it only makes sense to take control of all states. If the Democrats happen to be in charge then, goodbye 10th amendment.

DDT eliminates the fleas that carry typhus. During and after WWII refugees were liberally dusted with it. But, thanks to Rachel Carson this valuable tool can no longer be used. Countless millions have died, usually in the Third World, and now, because parts of LA have become the Third World, Americans will die too.
