Kazakhstan denies asylum to China 're-education camp' whistleblower

Ex-Soviet Kazakhstan has refused asylum to an escaped Chinese national whose court testimony helped expose a secretive network of re-education camps in China's restive Xinjiang region.

China launched its "Strike Hard" campaign targeting separatism in Muslim-majority Xinjiang in 2014. The crackdown intensified two years later when hardline official Chen Quanguoc -- infamous for his repressive rule in Tibet -- became the region's new Communist Party chief. Over a million people -- mostly ethnic Uighurs -- are allegedly being held in a secretive network of extra-judicial, political re-education centres.

Sayragul Sauytbay, 41, was denied political asylum by a migration committee in the Central Asian country. The decision came despite an earlier court ruling refusing to allow her extradition to China for having illegally crossed the border between the two countries.

Lawyer Abzal Kuspanov told AFP the decision had been "expected" given the "very strong influence of China" on its close ally Kazakhstan. He said they would appeal the decision.

"She will not be deported, we will not allow it," Kuspanov said.

Roughly 1.5 million ethnic Kazakhs live in the western Chinese region of Xinjiang.

Chinese authorities had blocked her efforts to reunite with her family, who recently gained Kazakh citizenship, because she knew "state secrets", she said.

Communism is not the antidote to Islam.

After a meeting over a border dispute with China, the Kazakh leader moved his capital from a point fairly close to the Sino-Kazakh border to one about as far as he could get without ending up in another country. All of the Central Asian countries presumably understand that, like Mongolia, they are not Chinese provinces only for as long as Russia remains able to protect them from Chinese expansion.

I believe she is worthy of American asylum if she can’t get it elsewhere.

Vice President Mike Pence stated in plain terms yesterday that China is currently America’s greatest threat.

We don’t need more Islamists in this country. There are literally dozens of Muslim countries where she might have an easier time assimilating.

No but they seem to have a better handle on controlling and isolating them than the western nations.

I know Kazahks who are MINO (Muslim in Name Only.)

And Uighurs in China are not all head-covering and radical either. Many of them find success as models in the West because of their gorgeous ethnically ambiguous features.

And as I stated above, Stalin-style Communism is not the antidote to Islam and it’s just sick and vicious that even individuals on these boards purport to claim that China is “saving” us from Islam. PUH-leeze.

The Islamists are the ones being sent off to camp. The non-Islamists include this young Uighur lady:

Note the lack of head covering. I have no doubt that many secular Uighurs have made it to the West on the strength of fake claims of religious persecution. But there are plenty of legit Islamists, and head coverings are fairly good indicators. The problem with a lot of Muslim immigrants is that even if they start out secular, they absimilate into radical Islam after arriving here instead of assimilating into the secular/Christian mainstream.
