I doubt Mitch would schedule the vote if he wasn’t pretty sure about the numbers. That said, if they vote him down, Trump should re-nominate, and let that be the issue in November.

Don’t agree. At this point it’s useful to get everyone on record for the midterms. This is a case where you bring a vote regardless of the outcome.
