Moon reiterates commitment to peace, reunification with N. Korea

President Moon Jae-in on Friday reiterated his commitment to peace and eventual reunification with North Korea, saying he dreams of a country that overseas Koreans can visit overland by car and train.

Moon made the remark during a Korean Day ceremony before hundreds of representatives of overseas Koreans from around the world, stressing that the two Koreas are moving beyond national division and confrontation toward peace.

"A dream of the South and the North becoming one in lasting peace. A dream of you and your children visiting your home country by car and train. A dream of (us) prospering throughout the entire world beyond the Korean Peninsula. These are the dreams that I want to make sure to realize," Moon said during a ceremony at a hotel in southern Seoul.

Moon also said that the two Koreas agreed to jointly celebrate next year's 100th anniversaries of the nationwide pro-independence uprising against Japan's colonial rule and the establishment of Korea's provisional government, and that he hopes overseas Koreans will also join in celebrating the anniversaries.

"This will be a good opportunity to restore homogeneity between the South and the North," he said.

Moon stressed that the two Koreas are on the path to peace.

"Looking from an airplane going between Pyongyang, Samjiyon and Seoul, I couldn't find any land divided. There were only mountains and rivers that are connected as one," Moon said. Samjiyon is a North Korean region near Mount Paekdu. Moon visited the mountain together with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un last month.

Moon also promised to take a series of measures to support overseas Koreans.

"We will make sure to draw up and carry out policies for overseas Koreans thoroughly for the benefit of overseas Koreans," he said. "We will listen more to your voices."

Remember the old Vulcan saying: “Only Trump could go to Pyongyang.”

So... if the two Korea’s are going to reunite surely the impoverished North is not going to be the ruling government. How are they going to work out what kind of political system is there going to be?

Well, he's the guy in power for the foreseeable future in South Korea, so he's the man we have to deal with.

The current Moon govt in South Korea is viciously leftist and scary, and I hope setting off alarm bells among American diplomats and others. They have already imprisoned two former conservative PRESIDENTS including Moon's impeached (on witch hunt charges) predecessor Park Geun Hye for 33 years. Park is the daughter of assassinated Korean presdient Park Chung Hee who served in the 70s.

Just yesterday they sentenced former President Lee Myung Bak to to 15 years. For "corruption." It's huge news right now.

The party of Moon is pro-Pyongyang/anti-American despite their little 'cooperation' act with Trump. I am half-Korean. No 'reunification' should happen under their watch. Would be disaster and totally biased toward North and serving the interests of its regime.

South Korea's economy is already taking a hit as its govt continues to pour money into the North on all sorts of appeasement projects. There is also a nauseating banner picture of the two presidents holding hands hanging up in the middle of Seoul City Plaza.

I was the G-2 Hotline Operator/Duty NCO at I Corps the night that President Park was assassinated by his own people so I’m very familiar with what happened. We naturally assumed that North Korea was behind it and were preparing for war when the reports came in that the KCIA chief was the murderer.

Wow! Thanks for filling us in. I had no idea how far left the Moon regime is.
