I heard the problem is that the law covers all sorts of things that aren't bump stocks, like just a new improved grip.

The problem is that the proposed law regulates anything that "increases the rate of fire" of a weapon.

Does a lighter trigger weight 'increase the rate of fire?' Does a muzzle brake that prevents muzzle rise increase the rate of fire? Does a large capacity magazine increase the long term rate of fire?

They're advertising that they're going after bump stocks, binary triggers, and trigger cranks, but their law goes after much, much more.

Yes, it’s the wording. A new trigger or muzzle brake could be outlawed because it “increases the rate of fire”.
