San Francisco Chronicle ^ | Sep. 30, 2018 | Chronicle Editorial Board

Given the high risk and low rewards of Trump’s trade wars, it’s fortunate that his bluster about blowing up NAFTA also appears to have been overblown.

Hey SF Chronicle the DOW closed up 192 today. Sounds like winning to me.

The steel and aluminum tariffs survived. That alone is a major accomplishment and win for the U.S..

The SFO Chronicle should be more concerned about the health effects associated with human waste and needles left lying on the sidewalks.

Ordinary people have made lotsa money from the market....and they know damn well it's because of Trump's initiatives.

Twenty months in and look what he's done.

First....he pulled us out of all these damn global deals where we not only give up a piece of our sovereignty but a sh** load of money.

Gave us tax cuts.

NK is returning remains both to SK.

Stalemated Iran...

Got part of the border built....and psssst....with the new USMCA, Mexico is paying for it. And on and on.....all in 20 months and under the most difficult circumstances....aka...the Mueller sh**....and nutcase shows like this confirmation process.

There is no basic issue with Algoma Steel in Sault Ste Marie, Ont.

At the geographical nexus of Taconite and coal along the Great Lakes, it’s well positioned for North American Steel Production.

Gov’t labor, taxes, environmental and other interventions would be the issues.

Surprised they didn’t include a graphic showing NAFTA as the Phoenix rising from the ashes of Trump’s negotiating.

This new deal (USMCA) is probably what drove China to announce they would be cutting tariffs.

China is still only offering a fig leaf with tiny cuts to tariffs, that would not effect the structural conditions by which China strips industries and technology wholesale from the USA (and Canada). It is a quick change of tone from China though, which has long arrogantly asserted it would do what it wanted.

This new North American deal had to be established, before tariffs could be effective against China. Otherwise, Chinese goods would just go through Canada and Mexico, to come through tariff-free under NAFTA.

Now it is getting real for China, and real quick.

I don’t see how they had time or space to cover NAFTA. Isn’t all of SFO busy with news of the LGBTQRSTUV doings at the Folsom Street Festival?
