The 17th amendment should have been found to be null and void. It changed the country from a Republic to a Democracy. We are guaranteed a Republican form of government in the US Constitution. It was not a simple matter of changing methods of Senators being elected or appointed. It is the Original Sin against that document IMO.

The Framers purposely sourced different electors to the House, Senate and Presidency for the right reason: the factions encouraged by unfiltered democracy are the death of republics.
