I may have stayed in a motel in Gatlinsburg, Tn. which was designed by the architect you refer to. The Pine Cliff motel looked like a ship on its top but it was very substantial composed of poured concrete. It did have a lot of windows and we loved staying there.
However, that first picture does not look like one of these homes to me.
If you scroll through all the pictures at the link I provided you will see that all the Eichler homes did not have that pointed gable. Some were pretty flat across the top. The first picture you refer to was when it was sold to Ford so I imagine it was pretty run down at the time and they probably got a deal on it compared to the prices at that time.
