Judge Brett Kavanaughs raw, combative defense against a sexual assault allegation from decades ago may have saved his embattled nomination, but his angry, partisan words last week also may have damaged his ability to be seen as a fair justice on the nations highest court.
Kavanaugh said he wrote his statement, which he delivered Thursday before the Senate Judiciary Committee, entirely on his own.
And unlike much of the nation, he said he did not watch the preceding, riveting testimony of Christine Blasey Ford, the California psychology professor who told the senators she was 100% certain a teenage Kavanaugh had drunkenly attacked her when they were high school students in suburban Maryland in the early 1980s.

Judge Kavanaugh stood up for himself - the democrats HATE that.
I’ll remind ChiFiSty that self defense is a God-given right.
Lindsey did say tell Kagan and Sotomayor that Lindsey says high. He said he voted for them.
GOOD, I hope he actually IS their worst nightmare.
Aggressive and belligerent is exactly what you deserve for this obscene display of unbounded partisan politics .
It will follow you to your grave.
To them impartial means ignoring the Constitution.
I wish I could. But am grateful to her for showing me how LOW the Demonrat party will go to destroy a good man’s reputation.
I handled several sexual harassment cases, and after watching the Clarence Thomas hearings, was appalled that anyone could EVER think that A. HILL would follow Thomas to his next job if he had really sexually harassed her.
The Thomas confirmation hearing WAS a hi-tech lynching, by a party which wants everyone to forget they fought the Civil War over Abolition, and then wrote the South’s Jim Crow laws!
Something tells me that Kavanaugh and Clarence Thomas are going to be fast friends and be voting along the same lines after what happened to both.
As if the LA Times would ever consider anyone who doesn’t vote in lockstep with the progressive bloc on the Supreme Court to be impartial.
ROFLMBO!!!!! As if the LATimes would ever think of him as anything but an enemy? The Left, including Congressional leaders, openly opposed Trump's pick BEFORE the name was announced.
Just more passive aggressive nonsense from the psychotic Left.
Complete infantile DNC moronic propaganda.
Being savaged with lies, no one is going to sit by and respond calmly?
No he did EXACTLY what any innocent man would do. The Leftist scum have been allowed far to long to throw verbal punches without a response by beta male Republicans. Those days are done.
That's the witch trial tactic. If we try to drown a witch and she lives, she is a witch. If she dies, she must have been innocent. The same goes with Kavanaugh. If he defends himself he loses the vote because he is too aggressive. If he does nothing, he looses because he looks guilty. I am glad he chose the Clarence Thomas route and fought back.
I had to listen to NPRs coverage of the hearings because my AM reception was so bad. One of their female hosts said that Kavanaugh was so angry it was like he could hit you.
And most of the lunatics are in the Democratic party.
I want a judge righteously passionate for justice.
You said it VOR78! This situation is very funny at certain levels. Kavanaugh was chosen because he was a compromise candidate meant to get through confirmation quickly with no RINO objections and marginal support from Democrat senators from states which went to Trump.
Only 1 Republican Senator is up for reelection in a state that went for Hillary while 10 Democrat Senators are up for reelection in states that President Trump won. The Democrats have been fighting an uphill battle when it comes to the Senate. They have been backed up against a wall with very little to lose. Their reaction has been politics 101 and should not have been unexpected. The Rat party and their media cohorts are never afraid to completely fabricate a situation which has absolutely no supporting evidence and go completely wild with it. Since they control 90% of what people see and hear about politics they have gotten accustomed to this type of thing working.
They did not seem to consider that the public in the states where 10 Senate seats are up for grabs are actually more enthusiastic about President Trump than they were before the last election. And you can bet that President Trump, one of the hardest working campaigners in our history will be in each of these States whipping up his followers into a frenzy... and they just gave him more potent ammunition to do it. Trump supporters do not like to see an innocent man's life ruined by false allegations.
In this situation the narrative is all that mattered to them. They never considered that their actions might give a moderate Bush insider a “life lesson” about leftist nonsense that he will not ever forget for the rest of his life. And that he will be spending the rest of his life on the bench of the Supreme Court of the United States. Kavanaugh will be confirmed, his perception of the world has been forever altered, and he will remember who did it.
How and where the LA Times thinks that his "impartiality" is going to be negatively affected or impacted is a mystery to me.
After all this, it’s going to be hard to be impartial but he will rise to the occasion.
