Republicans Should Not Have Delayed the Kavanaugh Vote
National Review ^ | September 29, 2018 | ANDREW C. MCCARTHY

They gave Democrats exactly what they wanted.

You have opponents whose first and only objective is delay. From the start of the confirmation proceedings on Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court, those opponents, Senate Democrats, have thus pushed for delay. At every turn. Of course they never come out and say that’s what they’re doing — they never come out and say, “We’ve abused the confirmation process and dropped a bomb at the eleventh hour, an uncorroborated, 36-year-old allegation of sexual assault, because we’re trying to delay the vote until after the midterms.” But delay is what they want.

It doesn’t matter what sheep’s clothing the wolf comes in; the wolf is always delay. When they say, “We’re protecting survivors,” they mean, “We want delay.” When they posture that “women must be believed,” their aim is more delay. When they say, “The FBI must investigate to remove any cloud over the nominee,” the translation is: “Give us a delay so we can come up with new reasons for delay.”

Get it?

Dems say, “potato,” they mean “delay”; Dems say “tomato,” they mean delay; Tomato, delay, potato, delay; Let’s call the whole thing off.

...

Observing that the GOP majority is giving Democrats exactly what they want does not adequately convey how incompetently Republicans have performed.

Agree. They didn’t have the votes. At least passed committee and Mitch has kept Senate in session. Took 3.5 days for Hill investigation. How long to figure out Julie is a wacko. She was sued for sexual harassment and committed fraud with unemployment ins. Lied on employment application that she went to Johns Hopkins

It is bumpy indeed and our pubbies are doing a good job. Grassley, McConnell, Graham and the rest are making good sausage here.

I disagree, they’ll find a way to delay again and Turtle will let them.

He has no choice. You think he can tweet storm something to sway Flake, Collins and whatever the other hag’s name is.

Noway. That would make is worse because they hate POTUS. Remaining above the fray is best right now.

Credibility and bias are always proper issues in judging a witness’ testimony. We know nothing about the accusers. Investigate them!

People talk like we have a real Senate Majority, we don’t.

The Rats are just doing what The Rats always do. I must admit, they may have outdone themselves this time around.

We have at least three Wolves in Sheep’s clothing, Collins, Flake and Murkowski on our side who think the Rats they work beside in the Senate have scruples. They are fools.

There is no better reason to Vote to expand our Senate Majority this November so the power of the turncoats can be diluted, no matter the outcome of the Kavanaugh Nomination.

I liken Flake’s last minute Blackmail to the last minute Thumbs Down that McCain pulled when we were trying to get rid of Obamacare. The smaller the Majority, the more power is handed to those with a Napoleon Complex.

Someone on another thread said the only way they could get the vote out of committee was to have at least two democrats present to vote and they all walked out.
Supposedly Flake made a deal to get them back into the committee to vote by promising he’d push for a the FBI investigation.

Rank-and-file Republican primary voters chose John McCain the squish as their nominee, they chose Mitt Romney the squish their nominee. They chose all the Squishies in the Senate as their nominees. Nominating Trump was the first good thing rank-and-file GOP voters have done in a long long time. Guess what, that was only 2 years ago? Let’s stop blaming all these squishes and start blaming ourselves for putting them in power. We have the ability to change this. Nobody put a gun to our heads and made us nominate these people to run as Republicans.

The problem I always had with the so-called Tea Party caucus, is that they never ever went after the media the way Trump does. All this stuff about small government was spoken in very polite tones. We need Republicans who are even MORE combative than Trump in order to counter the evil that we are up against. Everyone keeps saying how the best thing about Trump is how he shine the light on how nasty and hypocritical Democrats and the left are. Gee, imagine if we had about 200 more Trump-y Republicans in Congress and the Senate. The American people might actually get the idea that the other party is willing to stand up and fight against their opponents the way our opponents have fought us like Street brawlers for the last 40 years.

I’m really sick of hearing people saying that if Kavanaugh goes down that the Republicans are finished in the midterms. The idea that we should stay home and not vote because two or three squishes didn’t vote for Kavanaugh is complete Madness. We created this Republican Party, and we have to fix it. And while we’re in the process of fixing it we have to keep voting for Republicans like our life depends on it.

Please reiterate why delaying confirmation is good for Republicans.

The Rats are already locked and loaded for the next round of vile fake accusations. They’ve already queued up fake victims 4 through 36.

I hope you’re right, I really hope you’re right.

I understand the frustration, but if you don’t have the votes, forcing them to vote on Monday when three GOPers are balking is pointless. We only get one shot to get this right. If a 3-4 - day run with the FBI is what’s needed to get Kav to 51, then the wait is worth it.

Yes, because after he is confirmed, it will be on to the next evil they can think of to derail Trump.

Grassley and McConnell are not leaders. The Repubs have no leaders. What a shame for Trump. I know guys who work on yards here that have more leadership ability.

The delay is a blessing for Trump. He can schedule more rallies and state his accomplishments. The Dems are not so smart. They get 4 hours of boring Senators giving forgettable speeches. trump gets 5 days to rally thousands in tight races.
