I dont know what house it was but it was very unique because it had a bathroom across the hall from a bedroom.

Well, I’m 67, and I’ve lived in a lot of houses over my lifetime. Most of them had a bathroom across from a bedroom.
NOT having a bathroom on the bedroom floor is about as stupid as it gets!
Who wants to deal with a staircase and a crying toddler needing a bathroom, in the middle of the night?

That’s how a split level is designed. They are very common but I suppose that depends on where you live.
Do Maryland houses have basements? If so, then a guest would be directed to the basement restroom or first floor powder room rather than up to the private second floor.
Why would Brett and Judge be upstairs? Possibly in the owner’s son’s room but not the master or another other bedroom. Why hasn’t she said who’s room it was? A teen boy’s room, the master, the guest room, a daughter’s girly decorated room?
