THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK
HARRY WARREN
DAMES:I ONLY HAVE EYES FOR YOU
This weekend is dedicated to one of Harrys immortal tunes. It has survived 84 years although the originating film was one of the lesser Warner Brothers musicals.
This is how it appeared in the 1934 movie. Note that there is an intro, and the song is in a 2/4 fox trot tempo.
Dick Powell: I Only Have Eyes for You
This is Busby Berkeleys big production number from the film.

That Berkley version had a heady intro.

I’ve seen “Dames” a few times in the theater. “I Only Have Eyes for You” is a great production number.
