Totally agree. As a practicing trial lawyer, this is the only way to handle a sympathetic "victim". You get her comfortable and trusting and gently peel away. She's doing a great job.
With this type of witness, you get more [f]lies with honey than vinegar.

Her self professed fear of flying seems to be absolute BS! The woman is a cool liar! The kind that can outsmart a polygraph-er (especially with her psychology background).

There is no mention of Kavanaugh in the 2013 therapist's notes.
Also, when she was asked what she remembered most about the night of the alleged assault, she failed to mention Brett Kavanaugh’s name. It seems that would have been what she would remember most. Could have been nerves but still a head shaker.

I see this as a disaster for the GOP and worse still an absolute horror for Kavanaughs family. I weep for his daughters who will have to live with the taunts and abuse that their loving father is now branded as a rapist. If there is one thing that might be redeeming is that now the #metoo Inquisition has been released it cannot be ended and liberal Democrats may become victims of this monster they have unleashed. I hope that Keith Ellison should now be the next target of the Inquisition and I am certain there are a long line of Democrat members of Congress with skeletons in their closet who will be swept up as well. Sadly as a white male, I now live in fear that some decades old accusations might be leveled against me destroying me and my family.

So she left the country club where she had been swimming (had swimsuit on) and walked 6 - 8 miles to attend a party with friends. Did she have her parents' permission"
Was allegedly assaulted then walked the few miles back home. Why didn't she call the parents to come pick her up? Why didn't she tell her parents of the assault?

With almost any type of witness. Too many people are too easily impressed with dramatic histrionics. They are usually a mistake when questioning a witness. Closing arguments, once all the testimony is in, perhaps; but not in the gathering process.

The way this woman is trying to come off as a innocent, clueless, naive child is really turning me off. She acts as if she doesnt know what a polygraph is or how it works. Isnt she not a psychologist? Her child-like act just does not ring true with what we know about this woman. Shes very clearly been coached.

Lots of pearl-clutchers here on FR think Mitchell's job is to humiliate Ford to the point where she blows her brains out right there on national television.
That would be a disaster -- both literally and politically.
If Mark's observations are accurate, then I think there's another subtle strategy at work here. The GOP objective isn't just to discredit Ford for political purposes, but to expose so many inconsistencies in her various claims (to Feinstein, to the Washington Post, in her "lie detector test," in her opening statement, and under questioning) that the FBI could not possibly investigate anything related to these allegations.
The end result here isn't as much a discredited witness as it is a non-existent "allegation."
