The owner of a Washington, D.C. restaurant where Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and his wife were heckled by a group of protesters earlier this week, said staffers have received life-threatening messages in the wake of the incident.
Two one-minute video clips were posted to the Twitter page of a group called Smash Racism DC, where protesters could be heard chanting, We believe survivors!

An activist shouted can be hear shouting Sexist, racist, anti-gay! while a woman quizzed the Texas GOP senator whether he believes the women making the allegations against Kavanaugh. The federal judge has denied all allegations made against him.
The couple was escorted out of the restaurant through a side entrance, before being brought back in later through the kitchen after to enjoy the rest of their meal, according to the statement.
While Trabocchi noted he is not in the business of hospitality or public safety, the restaurant owner said he has implemented additional safety measures to ensure the ongoing and future privacy, safety and security for our staff and guests.

It requires respect, listening, and sometimes a little etiquette, like keeping your elbows and politics off the dinner table.

Nice that they had the nerve to return and finish their meal. Awesome! Next time, ANYONE who bothers anyone in a restaurant like that needs a beat down.
Restaurants are not required to “protect” their customers. They handled it without resorting to police and were still able to do what they are there to do, serve food for money. I would not have a problem going there. This is not the same as the Red Hen which had a hostile owner and staff.
Quit trying to damage the restaurant, Cruz himself very much likes the owner/chef and did not have any complaints about the owner or staff’s response.
That may be, I dont know........
but ....NO RESTAURANT .....should allow screaming radical thugs to surround folks eating a meal and harass them to leave.
It was hideous!
Investigate the threats...it’s very possible the threats are coming from the nut cases...
Investigate the employee that tipped off the protesters that Cruz made the reservation.
Uh, yeah, they are.
Ever think it is most likely staff tipping off the crazies? That’s what happened at the ref hen
restaurant business = hospitality, dumbo!!!! Yes he had a duty to shut down the mob and let Cruz eat in peace.
Republican officials and their wives need to start using an alias.
The restaurant should have expelled the protesters immediately without a doubt.
I was a small business owner, although not of a restaurant. We had no such law that required us to protect customers from other customers. If the restaurant has a security detail, then I would agree with you. Does it?
He did get rid of the mob, so what’s the problem? Cruz and his wife knew they’d be taken care of and didn’t add fuel to the fire.
“We had no such law that required us to protect customers from other customers.”
The protesters creating the disturbance at the restaurant were not “customers”. They were invaders who were intentionally disturbing the dining experience for Cruz and the other real paying customers.
A small business owner who does not take action when her/his place of business is invaded by agitators intent on destroying the ability of paying customers to purchases goods/services and use/consume the product purchased will soon find there are no customers.
didn’t they let the folks in , in the first place?
He did take action. He got rid of the protesters after taking the Cruzes to safety. What more do you want of the owner?
Do people need a password to get in? Or does it have open doors and no guard? Or do you expect the maître d’/hostess to shoot them if they go past the reservation desk?
The “rest of the story” here is one of a classy place with a clever and resourceful staff. Ted and Heidi Cruz were protected, they got supper, and the thugs were quickly dispersed. I hope to be dining at Fiola sometime in the next year.
obviously we don’t agree.
Something for protesters to ponder is that most Restaurants have people in the kitchen with knives. Sharp ones. Good waiting staff, share tips with everyone who helps make their customers happy and generous tippers, including people in the kitchen. If you want to keep interrupting what they do for a living, it’s going probably end bad someday.
