Rod J. Rosensteins departure seemed so certain this week that his bosss chief of staff told colleagues that he had been tapped by the White House to take over as second-in-command of the Justice Department, while another official would supervise the special counsel probe into Russias interference in the 2016 election, people familiar with the matter said.
But by Monday afternoon, the succession plan had been scrapped. Rosenstein, who told the White House he was willing to quit if President Trump wouldnt disparage him, would remain the deputy attorney general in advance of a high-stakes meeting on Thursday to discuss the future of his employment. The other officials, too, would go back to work, facing the prospect that in just days they could be leading the department through a historic crisis.
Inside the Justice Department on Tuesday, officials still struggled to understand the events that nearly produced a seismic upheaval in their leadership ranks until it didnt and they braced for a potential repeat of that chaos later in the week.

Well, just where is the Keebler Elf’s analysis?
behind a paywall, but found some excerpts (not sure they are in correct order). hilarious WaPo feels it’s time to mention John Solomon. hope someone will post as an article.
A GOP spin on the Russia probe reads like a noir thriller but doesn’t add up
Washington Post-5 hours ago
All of the Steele dossier cant be discredited just because the contacts between private investigators and government officials were sometimes incestuous
... that have been published by columnist John Solomon in the newspaper the Hill, whose scoops haven’t gotten much attention from mainstream media outlets...
President Trump and his allies like to claim that the real Russia collusion story involves Justice Department and FBI officials, investigators ...
And it doesn’t discredit Mueller’s key witnesses. Yet the GOP’s evidence does reveal some puzzling interconnections among major players in the Russia probe...

TWEET: Chuck Ross: I’d like to see what parts of the dossier @IgnatiusPost thinks have been confirmed. (links to WaPo below)...
TWEET: Chuck Ross: Not to mention that the article does not live up to the headline. And the first introduction a WaPo audience gets to this “incestuous” relationship is through the lens of “conservatives pounce”
REPLIES: Chris Blackburn, political analyst UK:
Ignatius has been to Link Campus where Joseph Mifsud worked. He knows the CIA and FBI work there. Not relevant to his readers....I think WPost readers would like further insight into world’s largest espionage scandal. David was invited to Link by the CIA, did he see Mifsud?
Yes, CNN, MSNBC etc etc are all asking about Mifsud’s alleged ties to western intelligence figures. Arvinder Sambei, Claire Smith, Richard Bareet and Charles Crawford are names in the mix. However, unlike the Steele dossier. The bar for evidence has been raised extremely high.
Well there were a few dodgy American’s working at LCILP...one got arrested @GeorgePapa19 and the other has gone onto work for an NGO which works with former CIA directors @JohnBrennan.

Whenever he goes, I hope to heaven they jerk his security clearance and hang him out to dry.
Rod knows he's been exposed and now being scrutinized. He's boxed in. He's going to have to be on his best behavior.
Anything he tries to do will be evident.
His safe bet is to resign.
Doesn’t Pres. Trump have a news conference scheduled?
> officials still struggled to understand the events that nearly produced a seismic upheaval in their leadership ranks until it didnt and they braced for a potential repeat of that chaos later in the week.
What events? Like it says, nothing happened. So there wasn’t any chaos except in the publication of a whole lot of fake news. This is just fake news about fake news, on top of fake news about fake news.
Don’t forget Snowden.
Bezos know this how?
“This is just fake news about fake news”
Bingo.
Bottom line: The Washington Post doesn’t have a clue if Rod will stay or go.
“I think the deep state want Rod to be fired”
Rod is/was a key player in the coup to take out Trump (Sessions did not pick rosenstein as his DAG by chance). After that rat bastard recused himself, rod appointed the mueller coup(orchestrated) Why would the deepstate want to remove one of their best guys?
Smart politics. Democrats are denied a campaign issue for the Midterms. RR is a dead man walking. Trump has their surrender but will wait to make it formal.
It’s crappy writing.
They must assume Rosenstein will look clean when the unredacted FISA docs are released. Journos are so smart.
I was not clear on the meaning (hey I was young).
The Regional looked at me and said: "That means it's time to polish your resume.
Rosenstein needs to be the FBI "Manager of Special Projects" (though I would prefer jail)
I can wait another 45 days
