Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) on Monday threatened to bring articles of impeachment against Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein if he won't testify in front of the House Judiciary Committee.
Gaetz said on Fox Business Network's "Lou Dobbs Tonight" that Rosenstein needs to testify regarding the bombshell New York Times report that he allegedly discussed wearing a wire to record President Trump.
Gaetz said that he and House Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) are prepared to bring impeachment articles against Rosenstein if committee leadership won't force him to testify.
"If our leadership will not put Rod Rosenstein in that witness chair so the American people can get answers, Mark Meadows and I are prepared to call up his impeachment and force a vote," Gaetz said.
It would not be the first time House Republicans moved to impeach Rosenstein, although there has never been a vote.
Gaetz also called it "inappropriate" that Rosenstein would discuss wearing a wire to record Trump, even if he was not serious at the time, as the Washington Post later reported.
“It is inappropriate for the deputy attorney general of the United States to even be joking about wearing a wire on the president in the presence of colleagues and subordinates," Gaetz said. "I think Rod Rosenstein needs to be in the witness chair this week in the House Judiciary Committee. He needs to go under oath and explain these circumstances.”
Rosenstein is scheduled to have a meeting Thursday with Trump that many expect to result in his firing.
The White House said Rosenstein and Trump on Monday had an “extended conversation to discuss the recent news stories” and would meet in person on Thursday. Reports earlier Monday suggested that Rosenstein was heading to the White House expecting to be fired.
It seems I have heard this before.
Its an election year stunt to con us into thinking they are looking out for us. Lots of bloviating and outrage but they won’t do anything to Rosenweasel.

This is such an obvious attempt to sway the President from taking action and firing Rosenstein on Thursday. It should be crystal clear to the President now the congress has been protecting these deep staters all along. Mueller has been using the same tactic when the President appears to be close to firing Sessions Mueller floats the "investigation is about to wrap up" rumor to sway the President from taking action.

Trump should make sure the deputy is strip searched come Thursday and his phone is left outside the room. If he objects, fire him immediately.
Yeah. And even if they ever actually followed through then it is meaningless since they need 67 votes in the Senate to actually remove him.

I think Gaetz is a straight shooter but I agree, he knows full well he’ll never get the votes in the house and senate for impeachment. The ones that really piss me off are Hannity and Levin. ‘This is a trap Mr. President’ Like they know what’s going on, they don’t.
sessions, rosenstein and mueller should’ve been fired last year. The DOJ needs to be fumigated ASAP or we may lose everything.
You don’t want Rosenstein fired now. It can wait until after the elections, even after the Jan. swearing in ceremonies.
Let Rosenstein swing in the wind while facing congressional hearings. If he refuses to testify honestly, then hit him with contempt of Congress. That would give Trump a good reason to fire him at any time.
The President has had a reason to fire him for two years and he doesnt even need a reason. Republicans are seriosly stuck on waiting for everything. They wait until we have the court, wait until we have congress, the senate. Wait until after the election. Wait until Haleys comet. Wait until the cows come home. Wait until the cows leave home. What the hell are we waiting for? If we wait long enough maybe we will truly live free again or maybe we will just forget what it means.
