Germany: Where providing information on abortion remains a crime

Abortion is anything but simple in Germany. Just providing information about the procedure can lead to criminal charges, with several doctors charged in the past few months. Abortion is only legal under certain circumstances, leading to high tensions within the medical community. Fewer and fewer doctors are providing abortions and the subject remains taboo. Last weekend both pro-choice and anti-abortion activists took to the streets of Berlin. Our correspondents report.

Planned Parenthood are holding a posh $400 Gala Dinner at the Hyatt Hotel in Austin where they are honoring their former President Cecile Richards.

So we have decided to have a simultaneous screening of the Gosnell Movie at the same time in the same hotel.

As you know we wanted to tell the Gosnell story because it is crucial that the truth is told.

Well now we are going to bring that truth to where it’s really needed. We are going to show Planned Parenthood and their friends in the mainstream media that there is an appetite in Texas for the truth to be told.

And unlike Planned Parenthood we won’t charge you $400 to see Gosnell - The Trial of America’s Biggest Serial Killer. It is free - you just have to register here. Alfonzo Rachel who stars in the movie will be presenting the event which is being hosted by the Texas Alliance for Life.

-As explained to me by a German prolife activist years ago --- as I remember --- it's a bit complicated.

The German Supreme Court in 1975 ruled that

• the law defines a right to life for "every human being," --- this is the legacy of the backlash AGAINST the Nazi era: they were never again going to separate the definition of "human being" from the definition of "human rights." Their view is that human rights begin where human life begins. And...
• the law therefore requires to protect every life by by most effective way practical. But...
• They also determined that it's (medically) so easy to do a first-trimester abortion, (any MD, OD, PA, or Nurse-Midwife can easily and quickly master the "skill") and so easy to cover up (you can always say it was just "removing the remains from a miscarriage") that in early pregnancy anti-abortion law enforcement is very difficult; so...
• they made the compromise that it is "de-criminalized" (pretty much taken out of law-enforcement) but still illegal.

• Plus, there's supposed to be pro-life oriented counseling with supportive pro-life services available for any woman who feels she has a problem pregnancy. Supplementary income, expedited access to better housing, free baby stuff and so forth.

This kinda works but kinda does not. Because it's still illegal, you can't advertise for it, you can't cover it by private insurance, the state medical health insurance set-ups won't cover it, it's not taught as OK in the schools.

On the other hand, it's widely available for anybody who has the money, and the so-called counseling from the state is often a farce. Pro-abortion advocates have swarmed all over the counseling services.

IT'S HUGELY MORE PRO-LIFE THAN WHAT WE HAVE IN THE USA...

but there's still a whole lot of first-trimester abortion.

It's just disgusting that the USA is one of the most pro-abortion countries in the world, MUCH worse than Germany, not as bad as China but racing them to the bottom.

I saw the Gosnell movie at a preview last night. It’s an excellent movie. The actor who played Dr. Gosnell is amazing. His portrayal of the psychopath was spot on. Creepy man.
