I don't think the Republicans are playing this defensively at all. I think they're perfectly content to let this play out all the way until November ... because two things happen with each passing day: (1) Buzzy Ford loses credibility; and (2) Democrats who support her look more foolish.
If you don't believe me, just look at almost any local media outlet and see how little they're even covering this anymore.
