GOLD DIGGERS OF 1933: “REMEMBER MY FORGOTTEN MAN”

This is a clip from the film. Jack Warner and Darryl Zanuck were so thrilled with this number that they had it moved to the end for a stronger finish. This is was how Warner’s became known as the socially conscious studio. It’s minor key magic.

On my list of favorite movie musicals, “Gold Diggers of 1933” is #2—#1 is “Hollywood Revue of 1929” and #3, $4 and #5 are “Fashions of 1934,” “Gold Diggers of 1935” and “Pig Skin Parade,” respectively.

The “Forgotten Man” scene was most likely inspired by the Bonus Army demonstrations in Washington, DC that took place a little less than a year before the film was released.
