Trump Jr. to Dem Senator: 'You admitted to hitting your wife so hard it gave her a black eye!'

Donald Trump Jr. mocked Democratic Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) on Friday over a decades-old admission of domestic violence after the senator criticized a member of the White House staff.

In a tweet, the president's son brought up Carper's 1998 admission that he once slapped his wife, giving her a black eye. The incident was reported in a 1982 New York Post article that claimed his wife's two children from a previous relationship "were slapped around and bruised by Carper for doing such things as leaving the family dog on the bed."

Carper said late last year that he never lied about the incident in his 1982 bid for the House, but he did admit to slapping his wife.

"You admitted to hitting your wife so hard it gave her a black eye!" Trump Jr. wrote.

"Maybe you shouldn’t be so worried about someone mistakenly putting #maga in a tweet??? Seems you have other serious issues to work out," he added of the nearly four-decades-old incident, for which Carper has apologized.

Carper has repeatedly apologized for the incident, including in December after a Free Beacon report accused him of lying about the incident during his 1982 bid for the House.

"I have made many mistakes in my life and have always been willing to admit them. One of those mistakes took place 37 years ago when I slapped my then-wife, Diane, during a heated argument," Carper said last year.

"It was wrong. I regretted it then, and I still do today," he added.

Trump Jr.'s tweet came in response to Carper's criticism on Thursday of first lady Melania Trump's spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham. In a letter sent to Carper, the Office of the Special Counsel (OSC) warned Grisham for a tweet found to be in violation the Hatch Act.

The Hatch Act prohibits government employees from using their official capacities to endorse or campaign for a candidate seeking office. Several members of the administration, including White House counselor Kellyanne Conway and United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, have been cited for past violations.

"Two months after my inquiry, the @US_OSC has confirmed that yet another Trump White House staffer has violated the Hatch Act. This administration's blatant and repeated disregard for the law is astounding and unacceptable," Carper tweeted Thursday. Carper's office had raised the allegations with the special counsel.

"At the very least, we should be able to trust that those who serve in the highest positions in our government will follow the law. Instead, this administration seems to promote a culture where showing that basic level of respect for the American taxpayer is optional," he added.

Someone should slap him so hard that he LOSES an eye. Then THEY could apologize.

He keeps winning because the GOPe continually nominates designated losers and nobody wants a wife beater in their neighborhood.

The problem we have right now, is that common sense is gone.. the anger and hatred on both sides of the political aisle is leading to pure insanity.

The fundamental question, we are really discussing here, isn’t whether this happened or that happened... That’s just cover.

The real underlying question, and probably the far more important one, is... is the sum of a man (and by man I mean any member of the human race) simply his worst action??

This attempt by folks across the spectrum to declare that those they disagree with are nothing more than their worse action, is stupid. We are all failed creatures, NONE OF US, are remotely perfect, we have all fallen fall short of perfection.

Did a drunken 17 year old, try to take things too far with a (likely) drunken 15 year old 37 years ago? While another person was in the room? At BEST 3 people know the answer to this, and like it or not, their words are all we have to go on... 1 says it did, 2 say it never happened.... Short of any of those 3 people changing their story, we are never going to know anything more than that about the incident in question.

No amount of digging is going to change that reality. The accuser says she never told anyone.... the accused and the other named both deny anything of the sort occurred.

So the real question is, even if the allegations are true, is the accused a bad man?

The simple reality is, if you have a particular political bent, you will say yes... and if you don’t you will say no.... and if you invert the politics, you will find a different set will say yes, and the set now saying yes, would say no...

So, if you have a person who has 1 allegation against them 37 years ago, when both were teenagers, of this nature... are they a bad and unfit person, even if the allegation is true???? NO evidence, no witnesses to corroborate the accusers story.. nothing more than a sole claim against the person, of behavior that is improper.

Most sane people, would probably conclude no... only those with political axes to grind will claim otherwise.

Both sides need to back off this notion that a man can be fully judged by their worst behavior, let alone alleged behavior.... its a garbage claim.

Where is the line drawn ?

I don’t pay taxes. Am I fit for elected office ? Am I fit for your business office ? Am I fit for your carpool ?

There are guys out there who are terrible pedophiles. Do they go into this same bucket ?

A rapist is a rapist. Without proper rehabilitation there is no change. Do I think he raped this girl ? Not really - but like you said, it would have to be a gut feeling to say if he did or did not. There is not enough evidence, and there may never be, to say one way or the other.

A guy who beats his family is an abuser. Without the proper rehabilitation an abuser is an abuser. My grandfather was a terrible abuser who also happened to be a war hero and the county sheriff. He was a terrible man, and this bled through to his work because a man is a product of mostly his work.

Even without full court process, there are people who are bad and people who are good. All do bad things, but there are lines to be drawn between acceptable and unacceptable.

A man who beats his family is unacceptable. And as the boss of a company I will dismiss this person with extreme prejudice. If some dude sold pot for a few bucks I wouldn’t push it that far. If some dude sold crack to kids then I would.

What you’re talking about is the blurring of moral absolutes. That’s very libertarian.

“Democrats ALWAYS ABUSE WOMEN! And Democrat women DON’T CARE!!”

Absolutely, I remember back at all the women who stated that they wouldn’t think twice about “servicing Bill Clinton”. Not much self respect.
