The biggest hurdle to complete denuclearization is related to security guarantees. Kim has always viewed a nuclear capability as a means of ensuring that he will retain power and that his familys ruling dynasty would continue in perpetuity. The last thing he would want is to give up the only means of retaining power if he wasnt absolutely certain that neither South Korea nor the U.S. wouldnt take advantage of his denuclearization to invade and change the ruling North Korean regime.
Another obstacle could also become an asset: China. In past years, Beijing has used North Korean belligerence and unpredictability as a diplomatic tool against the U.S. It has kept Washington off-balance and its attention (and military assets) in the region divided. But since President Trump became commander-in-chief, it could be China sees the dynamics changing in the region and now may seek North Korean denuclearization as something that is in its own interests.

All I know for sure, is that Trump has gotten us farther down the road with North Korea than any other president has.
We’ll see how this turns out, but my hat is off to Trump for at least contributing to dialogue with NK.
And we didn’t have to ship hundreds of billions of dollars on pallets to Kim, and claim victory while he continues to work on nukes.
He has also gotten the bodies of many service men sent back, from the Korean War ( 1950-1953 ) and current American prisoners back too...without paying one thin dime.
Good point nopardons.
It's VERY important to know all of the facts, because not a single president, from 1953 till now, has done ANYTHING at all, except "talk"; but President Trump has.
A State of War actually still exists between N.Korea and America, as a Peace Treaty was never signed...only a cessation of fighting.
Attributing to Kim rationality, or even sanity, is a mistake.
He’s stone cold nuts.
Whether he’s even capable of acting in his own, or North Korea’s, best interests is a crap shoot.
A Sept. 15 article in the North Korean newspaper Rodong Sinmum, the official publication of the ruling party establishment, strongly reaffirmed the countrys commitment to developing a new relationship with the United States and the process of denuclearization, North Korean analyst group 38 North reports.
Cant argue with that. I dont discount the personal relationships. We are looking at years
He’d be dead if he was nuts.
No. The insane can be very clever.
