In a big picture view, the fact that most large institutions including every university, most of the fed government, all the media, hollyood, pop music, etc are all 100% hardcore leftists is actually producing a backlash amongst millennials. "Get woke, go broke" as an expression started with young people upset at how SJW stuff was being force fed to them in comics, video games, and movies to the detriment of the story. It's been gathering steam as Hollywood keeps doubling down on it by accusing anyone who says they don't like it of being racist hate mongers.
Youth are somewhat inclined to go against the grain of what they perceive as the establishment anyway. Now it is 100% clear that the establishment is leftist. Throw in the things that they enjoy being ruined by stupid SJW nonsense like having black female nazi soldiers in WW2 video games (that's actually happening) and you get "get woke, go broke" backlash.
