Pointing out that a Chinese company will soon start operating Haifa Port, he said that Israel needs to create a mechanism that will examine Chinese investments to ensure that they do not put Israels security interests at risk.
When China acquires ports, Horev said, it does so under the guise of maintaining a trade route from the Indian Ocean via the Suez Canal to Europe, such as the port of Piraeus in Greece. Does an economic horizon like this have a security impact? We are not weighing that possibility sufficiently. One of the senior American figures at the conference raised the question of whether the U.S. Sixth Fleet can see Haifa as a home port. In light of the Chinese takeover, the question is no longer on the agenda.

Never trust the Chicoms.
Why in hell does Israel need any foreign country to invest in and expand its ports, let alone run them? This will prove to be a dumb as the US giveaway policies with China over the past several decades.
And China is involved in other large construction projects in Israel. This is a surprising and troubling bit of news.
We have a problem with foreign entities, most Arab, running our ports as well. I think both nations are misguided when it comes to that issue.
Globalism is so right and nationalism is so wrong. Isn’t that what the globalist media elite and UN tell us.
Red China operates/runs some US ports unless the policy has changed. This is extremely dangerous, having the enemy running our key maritime facilities.
Israel shouldn’t do it either but I wonder if it is an attempt by both countries to form an anti-Islamic extremist alliance of convenience since Israel can only trust the US to support it every 4 years if a pro-Israel president is elected.
You saw what happened to US-Israeli relations when Obama and his hate-America, hate Israel, do nothing to stop Islamic extremists policies were put into place, ousting those of the former president, Bush.
Israel cannot count on any other major country in the world to help if there is serious trouble - only, historically, the US mainly under Republican leadership.
You couldn’t count on Carter, Clinton was problematic and Obama was poison to Israel. Who’s left? Putin and Russia? Red China? India?
Not Canada, not England, not France, not Italy, not Greece or Spain (getting more anti-Semitic by the day), etc.
Between a rock and a hard place, Israeli may have to make some very unpleasant choices.
Re Israel, Novembers’ election will show which way the US will go in the next two years - conservative and reliable under Trump, or Marxist, unreliable and growing more anti-Semitic under the Democrats/Progressives/socialists.
The choices for the US have never been clearer. The choices for Israel have been narrowed down to uncertain, bad, worse, and abandonment/on its own.
Was screaming about the Chicoms taking over ports all over the place for about 40 years. Hell, Jimmy Carter relinquished the Panama Canal and the Chinese where there waiting to take over both ends of it.
Who are we to suddenly bitch about Israel?
China was to operate the port at, IIRC, Long Beach, Ca. Not sure if that deal went through or not. Need to research.
Good news..!
Now we have a good excuse not to send Iowa farm boys to die in Wars for Israel in return for ZERO shekels..!
Ever.
I think Israel is capable of running its own ports. A previous USA administration tried to give our American ports over to the communist Chinese too I dont think this kind of thing is wise
Good luck with that Israel. As always, we’re pulling for you. But maybe we could have our money back?
Israel leaders stated they mistook the Liberty for an Egyptian HORSE HAULING SHIP, a ship almost ONE HALF the size of the Liberty.
But:
Almost none of the remaining shots of the Liberty show what was by far her most defining characteristic —a YUGE radar dish pointing directly skyward.
Those aren’t terribly unusual now, but at the time that was extreeeeeemely unusual, and this one was big even by today’s standards —the ship was a total FREAK.
It was completely IMPOSSIBLE to mistake her outline, to say nothing of the yuge flag she was flying at the time.
Her sinking, something probably pre-planned with deep connivance of the treacherous LBJ, was likely a plan to blame it all on Arabs and create the excuse to take over the whole middle east, with American aid.
Sort of a Gulf of Tonkin Incident, on steroids.
I think it was the Port of Long Beach that China got a contract for.
That was right after Operation Dragonfire, a BATF investigation of scheme involving the PRC alllmost succeededing in the smuggling into the USA of 2,000 AK-47’s, RPG’s and even a small number of MANPADS.
The US State Dept blanched at the seniority of some of the Chinese officials involved (including Generals), and tipped them off:
No Chinese government officials were placed under arrest, narrowly avoiding a major diplomatic incident.
If memory serves China also took over both sides of the Panama Canal.
It was an intentional act of war on the country of the United States and like the saudi attack on 9/11 ,we averted our gaze because of politics in washington and they play on how stupid most people are.
To the Saudis, as well.
The Captain of the Liberty got a Medal of Honor under the strictest secrecy:
He plunged into a dark depression and died an alcoholic.
Over 30 sailors died and I believe over 170 were wounded over the course of rocketing, napalm and machine-gun attacks.
It lasted hours.
They may see this as a way to gain stature in the face of the surrounding muslim world. They are tied to Trump, they are on friendly terms with Putin, getting closer to the Saudis all the time, and partnered with China.
Then again, half of Israel is as far left as you can go. And their security services are complicit in trying to impeach Netanyahu just like ours are doing to Trump.
