I have read quite a bit of Mr. Lopez’s commentary, and, as I understand it, he believes that sexual desire for the other sex is, of itself, virtuous. That is why he believes “conversion therapy” is something a Christian must support.
I disagree. I believe that chastity - the right ordering of the biological appetite for sex - is a virtue. While a person should be able to pursue “conversion therapy” if he or she chooses, what really matters is to pursue chastity, rightly ordering one’s appetite toward a pure heart and virtuous actions.
The vast majority of people are sexual, requiring or suggesting an outlet. Otherwise, it is a debilitating distraction. Scripture says so. “Marry rather than burn...”
I think Lopez is just recognizing this human condition. All chastities aren’t equal. A “gay” chastity is not the same as a “straight” chastity.
