But it’s not run by the government. It is run by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy who manages the facility. Who in the heck are these people?

“The Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA) is a consortium of universities and other institutions that operates astronomical observatories and telescopes.”

Hmmmmmm......I want to know more because an “Association of (assorted) Universities for Research” is pretty vague in my opinion. The perfect sort of vague scenario that allows for all types of involvement from unnamed characters of nefarious means like Media Matters.

You seem to know about it so maybe you can enlighten me on who the main characters involved in AURA are?

The Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA) has selected the Vortex data-sharing platform for the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST), a highly anticipated and revolutionary facility designed to create an unprecedented 3-D map of the universe and unveil the mysteries of dark matter and dark energy.  http://www.prismtech.com/about-us/our-clients/association-universities-research-astronomy
