Newly released government data shows 98 percent of families who were apprehended after illegally entering the United States from Mexico in fiscal year 2017 were never deported and remain in the country.
In that fiscal year, which ended Sept. 30, 2017, 94,285 people unlawfully crossed the southwest border from Mexico and claimed to be a "family unit" from El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras, according to Department of Homeland Security information shared with the Washington Examiner.
Of that group, around 1,500 people have been removed from the country, or about 1.5 percent of the total.
DHS spokeswoman Katie Waldman said legal "loopholes" that mandate families not be held more than 20 days by DHS have allowed people to avoid facing consequences for trespassing because they are not prosecuted, and instead are released.
“Because of restrictive judicial orders and catch and release loopholes that leave us with no recourse for removal, we are seeing a record number of family units apprehended at the southwest border," Waldman said in an email to the Washington Examiner.

Between January 2017 and May 2018, Trump used exactly the same “Catch and Release” policy for ALL non-criminal border jumpers that Bush Two and Obama used.
Until May 2018, all border jumpers were detained until a positive ID and criminal background check (country of origin and USA) were completed.
About 80% of border jumpers were cleared, issued a misdemeanor citation, given a court date, and then released into the USA.
The “Mexico Refugee Caravan” and the upcoming November election forced Trump's hand, and he ordered Sessions to fully enforce the law on ALL border jumpers in May 2018.
Today, I frankly don't know how much the border laws are being enforced - or not enforced - because almost nobody writes about the subject.

I have a feeling Trump intended a fast Build The Wall with strong support soon after he was sworn in.
He naively thought the “good” American people would come to support him because he is innocent. He said once he thought people would be convinced to join his side of the arguments after he got sworn in.
Instead, they fought and threatened him every second. And treated him like a dangerous despot although he never did one thing against the people they say are his victims. Nothing.
Thus, I think he was going to build the wall followed by finding, charging and indicting the illegals and deporting them. That would have been so great!

I agree wholeheartedly. I bet there are a lot of European illegals here, too. They come on a visitor visa and just stay. In fact, I had a cousin who did just that. She loved it here, she never went back. But because she was a Nurse, she applied to immigration and they let her stay on while the paperwork was worked out. You can come here legally if you have a profession the U.S. needs...Doctor, Nurse, etc., but I’m sure the authorities want you to do it beforehand. Makes you wonder how many “visitors” stay on indefinitely too.
