The National Hurricane Center has been issuing advisories for Hurricane Florence since August 30. The five day "Cone of Uncertainty" archive progression since Aug. 30 may be found here. As the super-size storm named Florence approached the U.S. Atlantic Coast, stories abound of people who are refusing to evacuate barrier islands.
The 82nd Airborne has relocated all of its assets, while FEMA is using Fort Bragg as a major staging area for post-storm supplies, including meals, water and cots. Fort Jackson (Columbia SC) has cancelled events including basic training graduation to prepare for military and civilian evacuees from coastal locations.
While hurricane preparations are rushed to completion, some stores are closing for lack of hurricane supplies inventory. Smart phone app Gas Buddy provides updates for gasoline availability along evacuation routes.
Wave heights to 83 ft. were recorded while Hurricane Florence churned 435 miles from Wilmington, NC. Storm surge is predicted to reach 6-13 ft along the coastline to the N of landfall. Steering currents are forecast to collapse at or near landfall, resulting in Florence meandering for days. This is expected to result in up to 40 inches of rainfall in isolated areas in the Carolinas, and up to a foot of rain in the Appalachian Mountains.
Tropical Storm Isaac: The government of France has issued Tropical Storm Warnings and Watches for the Lesser Antilles.
Invest 95L: The National Hurricane Center predicts 70% chance of development in the Gulf of Mexico. Limited forecast models, satellite graphics and GOM buoy info are available for Invest 95L below.

Wow!!
The Hurricane scale is just one part of gauging the dangers involved. Many tend to focus on just wind speed. Your pic reminds us of one of the other factors - storm surge.
Ungh. I have an friend from year’s past who lives in a mobile home in Supply, NC just west of Oak Island.
Well ........I know that because my hometown area had been already drenched when hit with the edges of a hurricane (Inland) a few weeks ago.... it did far worse flood damage than Hugo and others in it’s history.
The idea is the Carolinas are ‘already drenched’ from the Gulf Hurricane just passing through there before this new threat. This then creates a very different picture of the flooding potential with storm surges, slow moving and dumping vast rain in an already drenched and saturated area.
The ground in the Carolinas is ‘already saturated’ from the remainder of the Gulf Hurricane that passed through there recently......so there’s nowhere for these rains and storm surges to go but pile up.
50% of deaths in Hurricans are from storm surges.
Ps your name is so appropo right now.
Oh yeah!
Duke Energy ‘shuts down nuclear plants’ in path of Florence.....
The electricity provider says it began powering down one reactor early Thursday and would start shutting the second reactor later in the day.
The Brunswick plant’s two reactors share the same design as those in Fukushima, Japan, that exploded and leaked radiation following a 2011 earthquake and tsunami
Agree
Godspeed for you and your.
Those staying in danger areas critical emergency prep suggestions:
....Fill trash cans with water after lining with plastic trash bags NOW before you lose H2O.
....Tape coolers together with duck tape and duck tape a cooler at each end to 2X4 if you need raft.

I see it is an updated image. I first noticed the discrepancy because the image I saw did not have Hurricane Florence visible near the NC coast. That is when I saw Sept. 8 date. Now it is better.
cool picture. I am going to go to Hobe Sound Beach after I get off work. 7ft waves expected.
I love it when you can fish right off the front porch.
Sorry Nauti, still groggy from little sleep .. just thought you musta misread the 3 for a 0 .. had to look twice my own self.
