Just east of the NC/SC state line - stones throw from the waterway.

It’s the family beach home so it’s vacant. Tied everything down Sunday and the wife went down yesterday to get family memory stuff.

ARLO cameras will be up - until the power goes out.

My dad is in Kernersville, NC. Fortunately, he lives on high ground. Offering prayers for everybody anyways.c

I live about 10 miles from there. I think your father will be fine. I expect a lot of rain and some brisk wind (45mph), but nothing dangerous.

My parents and some other relatives live just below the Mecklenburg county line.

Very resilient and a lot of construction equipment on hand.

Looks raggedy, but has plenty of time to reintensify.

It looks like the new path takes it directly across Charlotte.

The projected path takes it nowhere near Charlotte, NC. Did you mean Charleston, SC?

Florence is as big as the state of South Carolina. A direct hit is relative, and effects will be far reaching. 300 mile radius for tropical storm force winds. 60 mile radius for hurricane force winds. Rain, rain, rain for days.

Follow your local Emergency Management advisories, particularly for flood risk in your location.

Latest Forecast Discussion

Brief summary of this discussion: Hurricane has weakened but not strengthen. However, the inner-core and outer wind fields have continued to expand, resulting in an increase the cyclone's total energy, which will create a significant storm surge event.

There is a also a link for the possible storm surge. This map currently shows potential storm surge over 9 feet (red color on map. Link:

Flo is a mature storm. Needed a nap this afternoon after 14 days traversing the Atlantic Ocean.

Does anyone have any ideas of what Conway and surrounding vacinity is likely to be facing?

I am so upset about this. One daughter lives just outside of Savannah, works on Hilton Head and the other daughter lives in Charlotte. The one in HH works at the only big hotel open and will not close. I wish the Governor would reinstate his evacuation order for Beaufort county.

Coastal Georgia here.

We were expecting stronger winds today than forecast yesterday, but, that has backed off.

We’ll probably put out a few more fenders, maybe pull the boat off the dock and hunker down.

We were going to strip off the dodger and some sun-tarps, but, we may not at this point.

See post #1. Be kind to FRiends and neighbors.

Take snark to private messages, or consider frayed nerves as a normal reaction to Florence looming.

Conway is about 15 miles from the ocean. That is too close to call, but if the hurricane stays slightly off short, there might be some weakening, but Conway would be in the maximum wind and rain areas if the eye is near the shore.

The new path has it turning after it hits the coast, then heading directly west, roughly along a line between Rock Hill and Charlotte.

See: Hurricane Florence Turns South: What It Means For NC

"CHARLOTTE, NC — Hurricane Florence's trajectory shifted south overnight, upping the stakes for the Charlotte metro region as national weather officials urge residents in the Mid-Atlantic region to complete their preparations.

The shift in the storm's projection means Charlotte would be right of the center of the storm, where wind and rain are the most damaging, the Charlotte Observer reported Wednesday."
