Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) on Tuesday night released documents appearing to show the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) diverted nearly $10 million from the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The documents, first reported by MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, detail the agency’s funding redirections for fiscal 2018 and show that millions of dollars were diverted to ICE from several agencies.
Those diverted funds, totaling $33.1 million, “will provide funding in support of higher priority detention and removal requirements than those for which originally appropriated,” according to the documents.
According to MSNBC, Merkley believes the transfer from FEMA to ICE was made this summer. He told Maddow that “it means that just as hurricane season is starting … the administration is woking hard to find funds for child detention camps.” …

Good decision. The FEMA spokesman announced this morning that their disaster fund was in good shape, ready to rock and roll.
And it’s fake news - congress ordered the appropriation in their omnibus bill.

Anyway, all the weasel words should be plenty to alert any savvy reader that the claim is a fraud and both the claimant and the reporter know it.

Ho.ela d security says disaster funds are protected and that this came from unspent year end money for staff, training, etc. Like all year end money, if you’ve ever been in the military, it goes away if not spe t by Sep 30.
I doubt staff will be out at OE sessions between now and 2 weeks from now. I suspect they’ll be dealing with a hurricane recovery

Supposedly the difference between an Omnibus bill and a Budget deal is that certain funds can be moved around at the Presidents will, where as a Budget must be followed. Whether this is the case here I have no clue.
And Obama diverted 750 billion from Medicare to his Affordable Care Act to make it look - well, affordable - and now ‘rats are running ads against Republicans saying the ‘pubs have a plan to defund Medicare - and apparently no one cares......
