A real shame. I insist that the feds over did it in PR (there is such thing as too much help), and the local government, having basically just collapsed, couldn't handle all the help sent our way.

...and tell me again what GOOD would statehood for Puerto Rico do for the United States? Why take on a problem? Like immigrants, we should only choose those that will make our country greater. As the Dems hype this, they are pointing out PR is just a Sxxthole that we don’t want.

The government of Puerto Rico was useless and hopelessly corrupt before the hurricane. Time to dismiss them all and install a military governor and place the 82nd Airborne at Base Ramey, with military police and the Corps of Engineers to manage and improve infrastructure. As a side benefit it will reduce drug smuggling.
