My husband and I were on the tarmac at DFW scheduled to fly to Canada. We kept wondering why the long delay, not knowing about the events. When the 2nd plane hit, we taxied back to the airport & the attendants told us what was happening. I told my husband before we disembarked it was Osama bin Laden. He asked who the heck that was and I told him I JUST read an article that week about him and he has publicly declared war on the United States. The attendant at the parking garage where we had dropped off our car only minutes ago (it seemed) apologized when we picked it up that he couldn’t refund any of our money and we told him it doesn’t even matter. On the long drive home, all our family and friends were calling to see if we were in the air or were ok. We never did make it to Canada. I knew that day that the world had changed for our children and their children and an innocence we had enjoyed without even realizing it was now gone.
I was leaving my apartment about a third of a mile from Ground Zero in NYC when there was a huge explosion and my building shook and there was a huge cloud rising over One Police Plaza which was opposite my apartment. The cloud was glittering from millions of papers floating on it reflecting the bright sunshine of a cloudless day. Minutes later there was a second crash and we could see the Twin Towers burning. Never forget, never forgive.
